Welcome to the forum. Rick and I are both involved in the "It floats and flys GB". You can see the progress of many different seaplanes and float planes under the group builds tab and just look for the group that is of interest to you. I did the Sikorsky S-43.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] The image you are refering to in Ricks signature is a badge that says he is taking part of a group build. Group builds are usually based on a theme and in this case it is based on float planes and flying boats. If you go to the forum index and click on the Group build section you should find a topic called "it floats it flies" or something like that. Sometimes there is a cut off date for joining a group but I don't think this one does. Just go to the last page of the thread, and type in a message to let them know you want to join in. Enjoy! Big Smile [:D]

Thank you, Rick, for the welcome.
I'm curious. That image at the bottom of your message, the one that says
"2005 It floats and flies GB",
To what does that refer, a group?
I ask because I am really intersted in float planes and flying boats.
Yours,
Stephen

I model airplanes in 1/32 scale.
I prefer tanks, military vehicles, fire fighting apparatus (thats a fancy way of saying fire engines and fire trucks), heavy earth moving and construction equipment and G gauge model trains in 1/24 and 1/25 scale.
I haven't done much with ships in a long while.
When I was young I worked in 1/72 scale.
In my middle ages I built models in 1/48 to 1/50 scale.
Now I've retired and I'm in 1/24 and 1/25 scale, except for airplanes which I'll stay with in 1/32.
Any material: plastic (injection, vacufrom, resin), wood (solid, stick and tissue), metal, paper card, whatever.
I am not enamored with the idea of putting every detail possible into a model.
Trying to get every detail into a model drive me out of HO gauge model railroading when I entered college.
I am a sculptor and a lot of my models end up as part of my art work.
Yes, I have a very large stash of unbuilt models known as my "attic insulation".
But I no longer keep them in the attic as an attic fire a few years ago melted a number of them.
They are only toys. No great loss. Easily replaced with the liberal dispensation of money. This is a hobby to me, an amusement, a past-time; Something I do for relaxation and enjoyment.
I have more fun modifying kits and models than in just building them as intended. For example, there really existed things like Hurrischmitts and Spitschmitts. Also, there were many experiments with adding floats to various airplanes. Those are fun to model.Evil [}:)]
