Hello from Manchester UK
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 5:46 AM
Hello, I used to make models when I was a young lad and now that I am in my mid 30's have found myself taking back up the hobby. I am having trouble when I come to glue painted parts together, it always seem to make a mess of the paint any help would be very welcome
Thanks

Hello Mr. Monster, Welcome to the forum. My advice for gluing would be to test fit the parts and make sure they fit tightly. After you have the parts fitting together you can wick a liquid cement into the seam where they fit together. You most likely used the thick tube glue before.

Hi monster, welcome to the forum.
Re your question, firstly ensure that the surfaces to be joined are paint free.
Use liquid poly (I use the humbrol brand), don't bother with the brush that comes with the jar, its far too thick.
Get a small paintbrush and keep this to one side for cement only.
Put the parts together, load your brush with glue, then touch the brush gently on the joint. Capillary action will draw the glue into the seam and leave your paintwork untouched.

Wow, what a warm welcome, hello to all and thanks to Woody and Fiasco for the advice, I have started my first "real" kit today, a Tamiya Tiger 1, (last week I built a matchbox 1/72 scale Chaffee tank just to see what I remembered) The tip about using a small paintbrush to apply liquid poly is a great idea and so obvious now that I have been told.
