Resurrected Modeler

Hi Everyone,

I have recently got back into modeling after a 35 year absence. No, I wasn't in prison. I discovered girls around age 16 and there went the old hobby. Now that I'm 50 years old and married my interests have taken a more pedestrian turn. I am a school teacher and am off during the summer and I got a wild hair that I wanted to try out a model kit just for the fun of it. I picked up a Tamiya Porsche GT2 kit and some paints and other supplies and now I'm hooked!

In the last 6 weeks I have spent countless hours and even more money building models, reading modeling books and magazines, and hiding in the basement. I have built a few cars, a few planes and am now working on my first armor vehicle, a Tamiya M1A1 Abrams.

The thing that amazes me the most about this hobby is how far the technology has come since back in the 60's when I first got into this. For you youngsters out there back then there was no super glue, photo-etched stuff, aftermarket add-ons etc. It was a $3 kit, a tube of Testors and some paint, if you even bothered with painting very much back then. Now I spend hours agonizing over a 1/48 A-10 so you can read the writing on the gum wrapper on the floor of the cockpit.

Anyway, I have read many posts here and it looks like this site will be a wealth of information for someone who wants to learn all he can about this very cool hobby. Maybe I can even offer some advice or tips of my own. Glad to be aboard.

Welcome to FSM Ed and welcome back to the hobby. Just like most of us, we all took a bit of a break somewhere along the line. Glad to have you come and join us.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Welcome back to another retread. I had a similar layoff, and came back full tilt. Hope you enjoy the site. - :)
