Hello, getting into the swing of things after 20 years not doing any models....don't recall there being photoetched gear back then.
So here's a question for the experts...do I have to prime brass parts before painting, and if so, how do I thin Mr. Surfacer 500 for use in an airbrush

Hi Mike and welcome. i don't know if you are supposed to etch them but i don't . i just make sure they are perfectly clean and i paint with enamels. I wouldn't really want to put etch primer through my airbrush because if it etches brass it'l etch the inside of the airbrush (not good) you could try to find an aerosol etch primer, i'm sure there will be some available somewhere . Hope this helps...Greg

Welcome to FSM Mike. And welcome back to the hobby, there's been a few changes since you were last involved.
Personally I don't prime PE, just make sure it's clean and unfortunately I don't use Mr. Surfacer so I can't answer that question.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Thank you very much, gentlemen, I'll stick to overthinking and go backwards, besides after all, mistakes are our best teacher.
