New guy on the board

I've been building models since I was 8. I have approximately 350 aircraft in my collection, mostly 1/48scale with a few 1/72 scale. Also about 20 ships , 25 armor and some sci-fi. My primary interest is WW II but my collection covers from Wright brothers to the B-2. I build for the most part straight from the box, although I have done some conversions to create additional variants of some aircraft. I normally do very little if any weathering (other than exhaust stains) because I like the factory new or "restored warbird"look. I first fell in love with warbirds at the EAA fly-in at Oshkosh back in 1973, and haven't missed a year since. Also my father was an Ordinance Sergeant with the 390th BG 570th sqd. during World War II so there is a special place in my heart for the B-17.

Hi, bigfoot01,

Welcome. In contrast to you I am a baby modeler in experience. Interest has waxed and waned, but been more constant in the last year or two. So I have been getting FSM for about a year, and lately reading some in the forums here.

I "love" the B-17 as well. I think it is a most beautiful airplane. One of my modeling dreams ( I usually dream too big for what I will realistically do ), is to build enough B-17 and fighters to hang up and give a sense of a mission in progress.

Do you know the book "The B-17" by Martin Caidin? He tells the history of the development of the plane, and on into its use in combat, Pacific theater too.

Maybe "see" you around.
