THIS IS WHO I AM...
Posted by The Outhouse Mouse on Monday, January 23, 2006 10:42 PM

My name is Mark and I've been building models for almost 40 years.  I've built just about everything at one time or another.  Due to time constraints (a wife and 3 girls), I stick to my two favorite subjects: WW II Warbirds and muscle cars.  Like most modelers I have a stack of unbuilts and a wife who just doesn't get it.  She does tolerate my passion and listens to my favorite war stories (I also love to read history).

I'm in the planning stages of a Monogram P-61 diorama.  I love detailing and I'm trying to learn to paint figures.  My last diorama was of a B-24 and that was 20 years ago.  I lived in Arizona then so I had lots of sand to work with!  My daughters and I are working on their first models, muscle cars.  After that, my youngest wants to build a 1/48 P-38 that is one of my unbuilts.

My modeling dream is to have what I call "The Killer B's" (B-17, B-24, B-25, B-26 and B-29), plus a few other warbirds in 1/32 scale.  1/24 scale would be Nirvana!  I'm beginning to think that will only happen if I scratchbuild!

One of my pet peeves is that I sometimes try so hard to things just right that I take the fun out of it for myself (and my girls).  I've always rather had to work at that.  My new focus is to let fun projects be fun and not be a perfectionist unless I plan to enter a contest.

That's who I am.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the forums! Pull up a keyboard and stay a while.

1:32 scale and bombers? You must have a large house!

I like WWII Warbirds and muscle cars, too. I lean towards the fighters, though I am building a Mosquito, and have the P-61 on my to do soon list. I find Spits, Mustangs & Tbolts very similar in nature to the raw, ground pounding power of the late 60s and early 70s.

It's good to hear your daughters are getting involved in the hobby!

So long folks!

Hi there Mark, as the father of 2 girls with a large stash of kits and a wife who just doesn’t get it, I can certainly relate to your story.  Welcome to the Finescale forums, I hope you enjoy your time with us.
