Greetings from the Old World.
Hi there,
My names Tony Waring and I live in England. I've been building models since the last Ice Age.I have always had a weakness for Monogram Models that started back in the middle sixties when I was a kid. The 1:48 scale planes with thier outstanding box art blew away the tiny Airfix stuff I was used to.
The cars were like nothing on the roads of England and were heaven to a small kid. These days I collect the kits as well as build them. I sometimes wonder why I'm building a rare and expensive kit, it defies reason. Then I remember why the kit was produced in the first place! I do have kits I'm never going to build though, the first issue 32 Ford Hot Rod is one.
I went through a phase of superdetailing models and had some success with that route, but burned out on it. I remember building a Hemi 'Cuda with a scratchbuilt resin towl on the fender with eight metal spark plugs on it, complete with scale electrodes!!!! Nobody on Club Night even saw those babys.
These days when I build, I like to use what came in the box, and only detail to the level a competant kid would have done when the kit was new. That way I get to practice brush painting and detailing with household stuff instead of photo etched sheets. Its a compromise that works for me.
Thanks for reading this, enjoy your modeling.
Tony.
