Intro, return to building, and looking for partially disabled modelers
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, March 11, 2006 10:26 AM

Hello all!

I'm coming back into the hobby after a few years off. Unfortunately, during that time I have become partially permanently disabled. I have had arm, hand and back surgery. The upshot of all this is that I cannot sit for long periods, and I have arthritis in my back, hands, and arms. I am at a loss on how to cope with these problems as I come back into the hobby.Question [?]

If there are any other hobbyists out there with similar problems, I would like to hear how you have adapted and coped to continue building models.

My preferred scale is 1/72, but I have a few 1/48 scale models, too. I primarily build aircraft from the late 1930's to the present, with occasional forays into Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. I have both single and double action Paasche airbrushes. I use magnifyers a lot! (Yeah, I'm in the over 40 crowd!)

Suggestions welcome!

Welcome to the Forums FLYiMan Sign - Welcome [#welcome].  You might want to contact forum member pixelater,  who is also partially disabled, but is a kick-butt aircraft modeler.

Welcome to the club! While not in nearly as bad shape as you seem to be, I have had to cope (and still do, to some extent, though I'm pretty much recovered) with similar problems. If you don't want to post the particulars, please feel free to e-mail me. I'll be glad to offer what advice I can.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to our world. You'll find there's many good people here who are quite helpful Approve [^] I think there was a thread in the "Tools & Tips" forum that may be of some use.
Happy modeling
