Hi There
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, March 23, 2006 12:46 PM

Hi,

My name is Eric and recently moved to the US. I used to build a lot of plastic model kits when I was a kid, and since I'll be soon be admitted to the hospital for about three weeks, I decided to take up the old hobby. Expecting to be bored beyond belief, I thought I needed to do something with my hands. I used to think that i was good at this as a kid, but recently I saw some stuff people made on the Internet, and.....well, what can i say. Most of it looks amazing and lifelike. I really need to do my best, I guess! But I have time and patience

So I ordered the Heinkel He177A5 Luftwaffe Bomber 1-72 by Revell Germany, the German U-511 Type IXC  Wolfpack Submarine 1-200 by Nichimo, and - very ambitiously- the USS Constitution 1/96.

I'm not sure what colors to use on either kit, and if I need to master the airbrush (never worked with one before!) So i feel like an absolute newbie. If anyone of you guys has any tips on colors/equipment to use, I would appreciate that very much!

Thanks

Eric

Hi Eric,

Welcome to the forum (only just got here myself). In the same situation in so far as I'm taking up the hobby again. Have a look around and see what sort of stuff you think looks about right for you. There's a whole bunch of really informative videos on http://www.scaleworkshop.com/ and it shows you a bit about techniques and such (I'm definitely not pushing Testors, I'm looking at a Badger). As a fellow n00b I found them really useful.

Good luck with the hospital visit! Smile [:)]

Welcome to FSM gluemeister, Hope your hospital visit goes well.Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

As for questions about all things modelling, this forum is a great place to get answers.  There is another section of the forum where you can ask about different techniques, just drop a line in any of the sections and you should get a response right away!
