I'm building and racing large (40%) scale car models, that are driven from a portable pit-cart simulator. A video-camera in the scale driver sends a wireless video and audio signal back to a monitor, where control functions are made through a wheel and pedal set. It's the closest to actually being IN the car and provides much better control than traditional R/C.
The cars are built as true to scale as possible, so that if just the car is in frame, they duplicate the appearance of the real thing. The cars can be raced at a kart track, or even a real race track. They use mainly kart mechanicals, Briggs engines.
I'm based in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and am looking for others, maybe in the immediate area, who might be interested in this sort of racing/modeling, sort of an automotive version of live-steam modeling. I'll submit photos, on-site or through e-mail.
