Restarting my modelling hobby!! :)
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 18, 2006 9:24 PM

Hi - After 10 years away from (Aircraft) Modelling, I have got re-hooked!! In my time away I want to be better than I was when I was in my teens....

This said, Ive bought an airbrush (my 1st)!!, 1:48 Scale Spitfire Vb & Hurricane Mk1, associated paints, tools and brushes and have befriended my 'local' hobby shop where the owner has been a godsend.... however...

Can anyone please direct me to a website where I can re-learn painting techniques etc etc so that my finished models dont look like the ones I didn 10 years ago!! Id love top get my models as detailed and well painted as possible!!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and I look forward to continued modelling!!

Welcome back to modeling! I got back into it this February after being out 20+ plus years. I've had a blast ever since.

One of the thing that really helped me in painting was just looking at what other folks did, and reading their techniques. Check out the very good stuff Dubau referenced above- I've been through that whole list and it's quite good. Here are some of the ones I find helpful, and I check them quite frequently:

Swanny's Models
Wingnut Models
Scale Model Aircraft by Pixilater

These all have great tips and photos of models at every stage of building. The best part- every one of those guys is a member of this forum, and they (and every one else) are glad to help out with tips, suggestions and advice.

Main thing I'd encourage is just try stuff out!

Welcome to the forums and have fun!

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back to the hobby and to the forums.
You'll find dozens of threads on technique here, just forum search the key words you are looking for. I really would check out (As Jon said) Swannys Models though, Matts a great modeller and shares everything (reviews, techniques......)

Fantastic - Thank you. I particularly liked the advice (idiot-proof!) on world-war-2-airplane.com. My only problem, is that it highlighted how bad I was when I was younger lol..

I aim to be better quickly and will be sure to post pics on here as I progress.

Thanks once again.
