New guy here!
Posted by GTi_guy on Monday, September 25, 2006 11:42 AM

Good afternoon all;

Let me start by introducing myself, I am Sean and a 28 year old avid modeller who still manages to have a social life:D  My main focus, up until lately has been modern cars, focusing on rally, GT and luxury sports cars.  I have recently burned out on that, however, and have pulled out several of my old Tamiya aircraft, and been totally revitalised.

I got bored of the constant CF decalling, as well as all the polishing, and repainting of the subject if there was a fisheye somewhere along the bottom rocker panel, where nobody would notice except me.  My current projects are the Tamiya P-51D-painted in Lou IV (OD on top, natural metal elsewhere) with a True Details resin cockpit and wheels.  Also I am working on the Tamiya Ferrari 360 with the MSM Challenge Stradale Transkit (CRAP with horrible customer support! do not support them if you can at all avoid it), which has gone to the back burner for now.

Anyhow, I would also start by asking a question to you fine fellows and ladies, in LOU IV, are the underside of the landing gear covers painted in a natural metal or in the green chromate?  I have seen pictures of both for the P-51D, but none specific for Mr. Christiansen's (sp?) aircraft.

Wel, that's the end, and I hope to become an active contributing member to this community.

Cheers!

Welcome Sean!!  I'm not really a car person but nice to meet you.  Aircraft on the other hand... There is a restored P-51D called the Lou IV (not sure if it's carrying the exact same markings) with pics here http://www.mustangsmustangs.net/p-51/survivors/pages/44-63350.shtml  I'm assuming you're asking about the side of the gear doors that face the wheels. If Col. Christian's plane was the basis for it then metal is the right color.

Welcome to the Forums Sign - Welcome [#welcome]. The inside of the bay doors was natural metal on most all D model Stangs.

Well, here is the link to the thread that has all my piccies.  There are 8 different models in this thread, and hopefully I will have some pics of that P-51 I talked about by late next week.  That is, of course, if the modelling gods smile on me.

Again, I don't know why I waited so long to join, this is one of the best modelling forums I have seen.

Cheers!
