hello trumpeter just caim out with a 1/32 scale WWII Mig for around 40 bucks looks like a nice kit and FSM just did a review on the kit good luck

Haha, thanks. That's pretty much what I figured... fortunetaly accuracy is the least of my worries for now, because I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough aboutr the subjects to worry about miniscule details and what size the rivets on the side are ("They're molded as 5/8" bolt heads, but on the 1945 variant were actualy 5/16s" bolts...)

Thanks for the help... hopefuly I'll find some good kits at the get-together on the 7th.

Asking for Painless, Well Detailed and Fitting is the Holy Grail of modeling! LOL You can get any two, but not all three!

Well, that's not exactly true, but it's close. Tamiya has great fit and is relatively painless, but isn't always the most detailed or accurate. Dragon is well detailed and fits, but sometimes causes great pain (especially trying to figure out their instructions!). I've not built up any MiGs yet, so can't comment on anybody's kit for those. You're pretty safe with Tamiya, Dragon and Hasegawa these days.

What I've found is that the kit itself is not the answer. The skills in your own hands is. Grab a kit and start building, work slowly and carefully, and do lots of research if accuracy is your bag and you'll do fine.

Welcome!! We like to help when we can. I've got some Red Star fighters stashed but I can't say how they'd build up. I stick with 1/72 for MiGs.

New here, but not to the hobby

Hi all,

I'm new to FSM and the forums here. I've been doing some kind of modeling for a couple years now... lots of wargaming miniatures, some various mecha kits, and most recently I'm trying to get myself back into real world models... from the looks of it I'm gonna be a big Russian jet fighter fan and various WWII planes and armor. I'm going to be entering my very first contest on October 7th with any luck, and it'll also being my first time seeing real finished models by other people in person (yay me!)

I'm actually kind of wondering if you veteran guys could help me out... I'm looking for a couple of relatively painless but well detailed and fitting kits for me to work on that won't require much (if any) scratchbuilding/mods/thrid party add ons to complete and have look good when finished. Like I said above, Russian birds, and WWII German armor ideally... in either 1/72, 1/48, or1/32 (maybe.) What I'd really like to do is get more comforatable with some standard techniques and such on these different subjects (I'm a much better weather-er than I am good at laying down basecoats... comes from not having an airbrush.) My personal goal is to get comforatable enough with complex assemblies to get into some larger scale fighters and stuff (1/32 scale aircraft look awesome, but complex as hell.) I want to get my hands on the Academy 1/48 Sukhoi Su-27 and a good Junkers Ju-87 kit... and a couple of armor kits to fool around with, and maybe make a diorama or two.

Thanks for all your help, can't wait to get to know alot of you and stay here for a while!
