Welcome to the Forums Mr Kurtz & welcome back to the hobby Sign - Welcome [#welcome].  Thinning ratios aren't super critical, so the old & trusted eye dropper method is perfectly OK.  Painting faces takes practice, but there are some excellent books & tutorials available.  Best to post your question on the Figures Forum.

Earlier this year I decided to dust off a couple of old Tamiya models that I've had since I was thirteen or so.  A 1/35 Sturmgesutch III and an M113 personnel carrier.  I'm almost 40 and have always had a desire to get back into military modeling.  I subscribed to Finescale Modeler and brought out a few old modeling books and bought some more.  Boy, I had forgotten how much I didn't know and how much I needed to learn about modeling.  I set up my workshop, purchased tools, purchased 85 colors of tamiya acrylic paints, and have set to work on some Dragon WWII German infantrymen.  Assembly and "tweaking" the accessories comes easy, but the painting has proven to be a chore.  I'm getting it, slowly.  Just reading through the forum this afternoon has helped.  However, I have some questions:

1) How is paint/thinner mixed consistently? Example, 2 parts paint, 1 part thinner.  I've been using eyedroppers but I have no way of accurately measuring the "parts".

2) After being away from it for so long and not having my Dad there to help, the faces turned out just OK.  Any thoughts on painting the faces on 1/35 figures?  I did a flesh base coat with a reddish brown wash, but overdid it a bit and learned some lessons.   That's OK, it's how we learn, but I want to do it right.

I'm very excited to be back in the modeling world.  I've always been a history/military buff and modeling goes hand in hand.  Even my wife and kids support it.  Or, maybe they just want me out of their hair.  Thanks for any help!
