Welcome Joe,

Hope to see some of your work.

In May of 1941, the war had just begun.
The Germans had the biggest ship, that had the biggest guns.
The Bismarck was the fastest ship that ever sailed the seas,
On her decks were guns as big as steers and shells as big as trees Wink [;)]

Hi Joe, ??? about Bismarck
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 22, 2003 2:54 PM
Joe, I'm just starting my 1:350 scale Tamiya kit battleship BISMARCK....I'm contstantly frustrated about the absence of swastika's decals in U>S> kits of German airplanes and ships of WW II. The BISMARCK as you know, has a huge swastika on the forward deck near the anchor chains ,but I can't seem to find one because US-sold kits forbid them....This political correctness is driving me batty. Reality is reality...revisionist history is disgusting... I was an infantryman in W W II (I'm now 77..was 18 then) in the South Pacific and Philippines an have been making models since Guillow made rubber band and balsa wood flying models!. Do you know where I can get a decal of the swastika I speak of....Black cross on a white circle? If so, thanks....Bill Barber (NJ)

hey Bill,

yes bill i can help you out with that.

the easiest way i've found to recreate the deck swastikas (there are 2, both bow and stern) is to paint the white disk, and piece the swastika together using strips of black decal film. i have templates for these if you'd like them please email me at joseph100@alltel.net. i'll give you all the info you need. i'll also show you the position of the stern swastika as well.

adding this detail as one giant decal will give you problems i know. it sounds harder than it is but piecing it together

i agree revisionist history is disgusting but the US doesn't forbid the sale of such things. it's just the fact that most kits are shipped internationaly or made outside the US. i have sheets of swastika decals i use i use for smaller models that i picked up and a local department store! weird find i'll admitt but true.

you just drop me a line bill and i will give you all the info you need and then some.

i'd also love to hear about your experiences in WWII, my Grandfather served on USS Wasp CV-8 and USS Pine Island, AV-12 and i love to hear about his experiences. i'd love to hear about yours.

warmest regards,

joe
