Hello from Ohio
Posted by Buckeye on Monday, February 5, 2007 6:43 PM

Hello from Ohio.  Now that the kids are older I'm just starting to get back into modeling.  I enjoy building aircraft and armor models from WW II to the present.  I'm looking forward to trying washes and weathering, something I haven't done much of in the past.

Ok, more exactly I'm in the Macedonia/Northfield area. Just moved from Akron.

Most people seem to only know Cleveland or Columbus and nothing in between.

Alot of knowledge roaming these boards and there all pretty good people. Very helpful and handy to have around in a pinch.

Welcome.

I am a Hoosier.  My family has lived in the same house for over 40 yrs now.  I've lived there all my life.  My mom was born about 5 miles from when we live now and then her family moved back to Middletown and moved back to Indiana to where we are now after she and her brother graduated from HS.  Her younger brother stayed there and her older one was born there, graduated in IN, and moved with the family back and stayed.  Gran and Gramps moved something like 13 times, staying in either Butler Cty, Ohio or Ripley Cty, IN.

I'm about 20 minutes from Macedonia, our German Shepherd club meets there once a month.  Hudson isn't far from us either.

What are your favorite local hobby stores?  I still love going to Wings in Lakewood but that would be a bit far for you guys.

Whistle Stop Hobby Shop in Cuyahoga Falls. Went there once, and absolutely fell in love with it. Before, Hudson had its own small hobby shop, but because of the chain stores moving in, it closed...

I bought an AM Helldiver there, and when the entire PE sheet turned up missing from the kit, Kevin (Whistle Hobby owner) immediately ordered a new set for me.

when you get a chance, drop by. It's an amazing place with relatively low prices for family run hobbyshops

Hudson to Brunswick is 36 mins by Google Earth and I don't have to take any highways! technically, 39 minutes and more if starting at my home and getting to yours.

Thanks!  Do you do any shooting?  I enjoy shooting in service rifle competitions and the M-1 is one of my favorites.

Hello.

Yes, Whistle Stop is a pretty good LHS, new ownership and a new attitude makes it worth the trip.

Wings is awesome. I get out there about twice a year. Its a scoot though from here.

Up the road from Whistle stop on Portage Trail is another Hobby store. Small but alot of plastic.

If you want to check these places out let me know and I'll meet you guys there or somewhere.

Drop a line at nightwalker32@yahoo.com

L8ter

Oh yeah, I have an original K98 that I take out and shoot from time to time. I'm trying to find a good place to go shooting though. Not too many places around here.

hmm... do you mean it with the get-together thing? it would be pretty cool to meet a fellow FSM member, but I don't think it would be too appropriate for a 14 year old to...you know... hang around with you two. Its not that im trying to imply that you guys are bad and will try to mug me because I'm a kid, but I think it lowers the adults' status... you know... handing around with a teen LOL

if its fine with you guys, I'm up for a Saturday of model shopping Big Smile [:D]

How many are from the NE Ohio area that would be interested in getting together for a few hours? It would cool to meet some of you guys and there are alot from this area. Anyone else who is bored enough and doesn't mind driving from distant lands are all welcome to join us.

What dya say?

Hello - just joined myself and thought I'd say Hi!

It would be fun to meet a bunch of fellow modelers and explore a new store.  I'll let you know when I have a free Saturday.  Don't worry jinithith2, I'll bring my son along.  He's also 14 and enjoys building models.

Doom Grr and oddjob007 are both from my school, and we happen to be friends (they are both members on this forum, although I haven't seen oddjob007 on here recently...)

Doom Grr and I went to Whistle together, so I think he would be game for this as well.

one question

since we can't drive, how are we going to get around to the different stores?

I'm sure we can figure something out with the driving.

Would your parents be able to give you a lift somewhere? The rest we can figure out. We can all meet at a place that is close and convenient then go from there. Buckeye, let me know when your free for a little while and we'll figure out what to do.

Whoever has not been to Wings in Lakewood should make that a priority and put it at the top of your list.
