Welcome! For bare metal finishes, remember that smooth surfaces will give the best appearance. Burnish that foil well or try buffable metallizer!

Welcome, kswager. The techniques that went into making those models are all available here, free for the asking. Knowledge of the technique + experience practicing it = results. Sure would like to see some of those B-17 pics !

Welcome to the neigborhood. I use metallizers for the most part, but use Bare-Metal foil for the occasional project detail. If there is one tip for using this product, it's-make sure your model is perfectly smooth before you start to foil or apply any natural metal surface for that matter. Any flaws will glare at you if your prep is not done right. Best regards Smile [:)]

I haven't done any modeling for...let's just say...a "few" years. We just had our annual Columbia Gorge air show and went to the Evergreen Museum in McMinville, Or to see the Spruce Goose and got hooked on the "War Birds". I took about 400 digital pictures. The B-17 has to be my favorite at this point since my dad was assigned as a top gunner, besides the fact it is a most impressive machine! So, one thing led to another and I discovered my local hobby shop (Hood River,Or), and a Revell #5600 B-17G.
I am amazed at the advanced skills and options available since the last time I built and "costomized" a car model with brush paint, rattle cans.
I also found the October issue of Warbird Modeling (FSM) and became a bit intimidated by the Flying Fortress on the cover and all of the accessory kits available. But I'm going to attempt the aluminum foil skin. If anyone has experience with doing this, please share your eperience and tips.
So, I'm off and running after finding a corner in a spare room and restocking my tools and supplies and picking up a copy of the November FSM!!
I look forward to hearing from you'all!
