Hello from Germantown, Wisc.
Posted by Hartmann352 on Sunday, June 17, 2007 3:04 PM

Returning to the hobby after a lengthy hiatus, (at least 10 years).

I am a late 30s, family guy. I work for Chase bank. My hobbies are East African Cichlids, reading military nonfiction, & obviously building models. I have spent time in the U.S. Navy, both active & reserve components, along with the Wisc. Army Nat. Grd., & the U.S Army Res.

All tips & advise are appreciated.

Wondering if there is anyone in the area that is really good at this already, for pointers, I do okay with 'bookwork', (the magazine does help), but learn faster seiing it first hand.

I will mostly be an observer here for quite a while, learning.

I build 1/32 scale WWII birds, I but I have the MiG-15 through 21 from Trumpeter that I intend on building.

I look on hyperscale everyday and dream of the day that my work comes close to what is there.

Well, there is a brief intro, any questions, fire away.

Thanks folks.

Never been to Canada, closest I ever got was Crivitz, WI. Always hear about the walleye fishing up there though, would love to go "up nort'" for that.

Have been to WY though, Jackson Hole, 2X. Nice state from what I remember, mind you I was 8 & 9 years old. (Went 2 years in a row.)

Dave,

Welcome to the Forums and welcome back to the hobby!

Have you thought about joining a modeling club as a way of picking up some pointers? There are several in the Milwaukee area, and I know of at least one Germantown resident who commutes to south Milwaukee to attend meetings.

Happy landings,

Aaron Skinner

Are there any groups on this side of the city?

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

I am currently working on a Tamiya 1/48 P-47D bubbletop. (It has female nose art, my favorite.)

Have a 1/32 ME-163 Komet(Hasegawa), 1/32, F-4U Corsair,(Revell/Smithsonian), that need fininishing up. (Are all Revell this mismatched? Pre-fit & fit are really gappy.)

On deck I have a Tamiya 1/48 Do335A & A-12 Pfeil . (big for the scale, would love to see one in person.) They just look cool. Ant tips on these greatly appreciated.

Welcome, Dave.

I'm just west of Milwaukee here, but don't really have a schedule fit for being a club member -- it's all I can do to just build models! Anyways, try doing a web search for the Richard I. Bong IPMS chapter in Milwaukee. They had a really cool model show/contest in Brookfield last fall, and I hope they get around to it again this year!

Anyone here with info on that? :)
