I am glad to see this forum. FineScale Modeler has been my favorite magazine since I started buying them with issue #7.
I've just got my copy of March 2003, and after reading the editorial was inspired to join the forum and pose the following:
1 - I'm wondering if other people feel the same whay I do when I believe that the savings from a subscription are outwayed by the condition one recieves a magazine through the mail. I prefer to have a good copy of FineScale, not one folded in half and ripped from the rubber band put around it by the postal monkey.
2 - While I have been a dedicated modeller for several decades ( which means I have only half a room filled with kits waiting for my attentions - floor to ceiling - ) I have also been a dedicated gamer. Some of my gaming involves scale models, figure painting tand scenery techniques et al. My question here is why has there been no attention paid to the modeler in the gaming field. I have collected and built a lot of WWll armour in 1/72 for gaming. While some consider 1/72 armour mere toys, I have one kit with a full interior (truly amazing but 1/76 scale and out of scale for my army, shame really), and others that have fine details for this scale.
On a personal modelling level, I collect and build:
1/72 WWll armour - all countries
1/72 Vietnam aircraft - hope to compile a complete war collection
1/35 German WWll armour
1/24-1/25 late 60's early 70's detroit muscle cars
5-6-7 chevy's in all forms produced - still new kits coming out I do not have (sigh)
1/32 aircraft for hyper detailing
1/8 automobiles - have the ultimate, a Pocher kit (its amazing, nut ok its the cheapest - alfa romeo race car - would have liked to got a bugeati or a rolls but so many models, never enough money...
sci fi and space age - comes from growing up in the 60's
I have limited myself to these as it is impossible to build any sort of comprehensive collection if one does not set limits ( am I mad? ) so I have identified my main interests and refined my goals ( I also have a 1/24 scale fw190a which would look great next to a period mercedes or something, but where to put it....)
Anyway, I hope I didn't bore anyone but this is fun.
