Hello
Posted by ironokie on Thursday, July 26, 2007 4:04 PM

Hello everyone. I am 47 years old and have just recently renewed my interest in this great hobby. I have really been amazed at the quality of detail that is put into some of these models. I have really learned a lot just by reading in the forums.

My story sound so familar to most of the stories I read in FSM on on this forum. I built models as a young man from age 10 to age 13 and apart from building a few planes with my son when he was that age I have not touched one since. My how things have changed.

I got an airbrush for Fathers Day and have really had fun learning from you guys.

You will be seeing alot of questions from me, the newbie.

Welcome aboard, & welcome back! I'm curious as to what types of projects you have planned as part of your re-introduction to the hobby.

I have the Revell P-38J Lightning 1:48 scale on the bench currently. Rather than paint the bare metal finish I chose to use bare metal foil. I got the idea from the FSM book MODELER'S GUIDE TO REALISTIC PAINTING & FINISHING. Ol' Bucky (author) sure made it look easy. I'm thinking I may have attempted a slightly more advanced technic than I was ready for, however I think the end result wasn't to bad, for a rookie. I have applied a couple coats of future and the decals.  I do believe the future left me with a little more shine on the anti-glare flat black panels than was should be; is there anything I can do about that? (dullcoat maybe?)

On deck awaits the Tamiya 1:48 P-47D Thunderbolt witch received a good review from FSM April 2003 issue. Great lookig plane, can't wait.

To answer your question I intend to stick with WWII ,1:48 scale war aircraft for a while at least.

Have a good weekend, I'm off to the Lake of the Ozarks for some "lake therapy"
