Greetings to All,
Hello. My name is Daemon, and I'm currently 44 years of age. I live to the west of the Houston area, and I work in the oil-related services field as a Control Systems Engineer. I starting building kits when I was about 8 years old, and completed my last kit in the summer of 1979. The last kit - Revell's Cutty Sark. This build took me nearly a year to complete. However, the kit that started my passion for sailing ships was Revell's USS Constitution. That kit took me nearly 18 months to complete. Keep in mind, I was only 14 when I started her. Something old.
Now, something new. Even being around computers and high-speed PLCs all day long in my professional life, I tend to stray from them when I get home. So all of this Internet stuff is, believe it or not, new to me. It has opened a big brand new world for me, and I cannot tell you the excitement that went up my spine when I found this place. It is a wonderful thing to see so many different points of view, yet all with a single focal point - the passion of doing something with your own two hands your way!
It's no wonder I have this passion. You see, my fraternal great-grandfather built shrimp and oyster boats. My fraternal grandfather had 7 of them at one time. Another of his craft is still afloat even today, and is probably one of the most noted on the Bayou. My maternal grandfather was a general contractor all through Louisiana. In his time, he built schools, hospitals, and even a theater Downtown New Orleans! He also built several of the buildings on the University of Southwestern Louisiana campus in Lafayette - where I happen to be a graduate. I did not know my mother's father, but I've been told that we share common traits. So, for me, each and ever kit I build, I do think of PaPa Ben.
So, what I enjoy building most are sailing ships. And I hope to get to know all of you in time. I thank you in advance for all of your kind suggestions, and simply hope to return the favor in time.
Well, as we cajuns like to say, "Laisez les bon temps roulez!". Nice to meet you.
