Modelling Club collecting "Kits for Kandahar 2"
Mount Hope, Ontario -
The Canadian Forces website reports that there are about 2,500 Canadian Forces members serving in Afghanistan. Along with 36 other nations, as part of a U.N. mission, they are there to improve the security situation and help rebuild the country. (Source http://www.forces.gc.ca/site/operations/current_ops_e.asp) The Canadian Warplane Heritage Modellers club has begun collecting model kits to send to our Canadian troops that are deployed on OPS ARCHER in Afghanistan. "Kits for Kandahar 2" will help our troops pass the time when off-duty as there are limited opportunities for leisure activities and to help contribute to the morale of the Canadian soldiers.
Tony Hayes IPMS Hamilton (International Plastic Modelers Society) President said, "We are requesting complete model kits of aircraft, cars, ships, etc., as well as, supplies such as small bottles of paint, tools, but no aerosol spray cans."
The "Kits for Kandahar 2" project was inspired by the Halifax Military Modelers Group who in 2006 started Kits for Kandahar after being motivated by a group that had sent model kits to American forces in Iraq. The "Kits for Kandahar 2" project will run until the end of March. Our goal is to fill a baggage cart which has been generously supplied by Swissport who operate Ground Handling and Cargo Services at Hamilton International Airport. Anyone wishing to contribute a model kit to "Kits for Kandahar 2" can drop off their donations at Canadian Warplane Heritage, located next to Hamilton International Airport, open daily from 9am-5pm.
