Butch O'Hare IPMS......you going?
Posted by mg.mikael on Monday, November 2, 2009 8:28 PM

So is anyone headed to the 27th IPMS Butch O'Hare Open Model Contest over in Downer's Grove, IL? Question [?] It will be on Veteran's Day Weekend, November 14, 2009.

As for myself I may or may not be going(the build I wanted to enter isn't finished) so I'm still 50/50 on my decision. So has anyone gone this IPMS contest, is it worth going(even if you don't plan on entering builds?)

I plan on heading out there. I too have never been so it will be a new one for me. I will probably get there as early as I can and only spend an hour or 2 since it falls on the same weekend as the Weekend Madness GB. Between the 2 hour round trip and a couple hours there, I will be losing time I can ill afford. Hopefully I will be at the painting the 'fuse stage and can use that time for the paint to dry.

Either way, I'm heading out to it. Hopefully I'll see a few of you fellas there.

Regards,

Jeff

I go to the Butch O'hare show every year! It is a great show to find a mix of models and accessories to buy at great prices. If there is something your looking for that you can't find anywhere else, this is the place. There are a lot of great older kits and there is always the newest stuff too. Lots of resin, photoetch and books. Don't forget that you can get in an hour early this year to get a jump on shopping. The contest is great also. It is a nice local show to see at least once. Check the IPMS site for the directions and times.

Well then maybe I'll see you migmodeler and firesmacker at the show. So far my schedule is open, so it looks like their's a 98% chance that I'll be going(won't enter any builds, since I can't can't return at the time judging ends.) Nevertheless hopefully, I'll pick up some sweet kits and AM parts.

Show starts at 9:00 AM right?

Sadly, no, but some of my models will be in juniors.

The show opens at 9 a.m. This year for $15 you can get in an hour early. The vendors are usually setting up still around then. It will be interesting to see how that works. If you are looking for something very new or very rare, the early hour would be an advantage. I will be working at my friends vendor table( I help out every year). He does SIFI resin stuff. I also usually bring some of my stash (to thin the herd). It is always a good time. Stop by and say "hi". Don't be afraid to deal!

This year I won't be going. It is also on the same date as Trainfest in Milwaukee, which I had planned on attending but won't make either. I'll be lucky if I make the RI Bong club meeting Friday evening. It is their annual club contest night.

Sorry to hear you won't be attending, Hawkeye. But at least I'll see some of Boba Fett's models and perhaps two of my fellow FSM forum members in person.

Well I had a great time yesterday and will definately be going back next year. Unfortunatley I forgot to take the camera with me so no pics, but their were some beautiful builds(especially a resin Buffalo MRAP.)

Nevertheless, I did get some great deals on some kits, especially a Tamiya T-72M I picked up for $10.00(got him down from $15). Also stashed up on some cheap accessory kits(some discontinued). So all in all not a bad day, though I probably missed out on one great deal.......a 1/35 Dragon 54cm Morser "Loki" Gerat 041 for the unbelievable price of $25.00.Wow!! [wow]

Anyone else get a great deal or miss-out on a great-deal?Wink [;)]
