We went to Angel's Ale House that evening, and got to watch the lightning show from there. The restaurant looked more like a dilapidated church with PSP plating in front of the walls, kind of a post apocalyptic look.  The food and service were great though!

I have to give Phoenix a shout out - everyone is so incredibly friendly here.  I know that the city is consciously rolling out the welcome mat to promote business and visitors, but it totally works.  I think that is the thing that makes Phoenix stand out.  Good job guys and gals!

Everything here is air conditioned.  Misters spray water at many of the hotel & restaurants.

What we got last night was a good thunderstorm and dust storm.  Dinner plans got shelved last night due to the dust & grit in the air.   Didn’t want to walk the 3 blocks with sand in my eyes

It's 100 degrees today at 1:20pm. I lived in Miami for many years and have to say the dry heat thing is real. Lets not scare everyone off its not that bad really!

My first Nats was at Phoenix in 2004, and I had a blast!  The heat was terrifying and yeah, $55 for Stouffer's lasagne is a lot... but I like lasagne!  The model room reopens after the awards ceremony concludes, so don't fall and get trampled by the stampede.  Most folk clear their models ultra pronto, I guess to pack and get out of Dodge.

A coworker just returned last week from Phoenix, and said it was in the high 120s(!!!) when they were there.  And the dry heat joke is bunk - I felt like an old stale crinkle cut French fry sitting on a dirty table in a 113 degree room the last time I was there.

BUT, I am glad I went.  My first day at the 2004 Nats felt like a Ramones song:

Hey ho, let's go!

Hey ho, let's go!!

Hey ho, let's go!!!

They're forming in a straight line.

They're going through a tight wind.

The kids are losing their minds.

Blitzkreig Bop!

Phoenix is home so I am going for sure. Taking my 8 year old son and this will be a first for both of us. I am excited to be around others from the hobby and to see the cool work!

I should of came first for my 2018 Phoenix nationals!, i just automatically went there to post. So i thought i would kick start this one with only two weeks to the start woohoo. Let me start by saying this is my first one, very excited, i am asking everyone what there opion is. thoughts vetreans experience. Throw it at me lol. So the question of the moment, the Banquet. Is it worth it?, 55.00 seems a lot for stoffers lasagna?. And what ever the dessert is??, can't you just have apple pie and ice cream?. Beside the food, for the awards announcements?, and the deal with collecting your models, your first oppertunity is after the Banquet?. Can you just collect them before the Banquet?.

Perfect time of year for an indoor event in the Valley of the Sun. We just got back from a late July visit...it was toasty! For me, the good part is that we have old friends there, so hotels are not an expense and we get a reunion in the bargain. It will be my first IPMS event, sure hope to attend!
