The biggest scale model show on the planet is almost upon us.
Check out the IPMS UK website for full details.
I will be going. My Lancaster build (seen on here)will be displayed on The HK Models stand.
I will be picking up ZM's new release, the Hs129 and one or two other bits.
I was hoping to be able to pick up some more stuff, but I have had to shell out for a new suit for the parade the following day.
It is time that this show moved from its present location to the NEC at Birmingham as it has outgrown the exhibition centre at Telford. Some vendors who have come from Europe and beyond for many years have been told that there is no room for them this year and I have seen some vendors On the list which I have never heard of in our sphere of influence, nor can I find a website for them.
The NEC has good rail links with its own train station, a major international airport practically on the doorstep, bags of onsite parking (you don't have to walk 2 miles after finding somewhere) and plenty of onsite hotel accomodation etc. The show they can be as big, or as small as the organisers want it to be.
SMW is brilliant but it is a classic example of the organisers not growing with the show.
Snapdragon.....It may simply be the cost of using the NEC that may be the issue for IPMS UK compared to Telford.
When I first joined the society way back in 1974 the UK Nationals (as it was then) was just a Saturday afternoon held in the art gallery of the RAF Museum,Hendon. We have outgrown since then Stoneleigh and Donington exhibition halls.
Your last comment does not take into account it I members money they are responsib!e for.
IPMS UK Scale Modelworld.... Brilliant show once again but all to quickly over for another year!

Good God is SMW getting that big? When I went in 2014, I got tired just walking back and forth between the three halls! After about four hours, I had to retreat to the hotel (the Premeir Inn acrosss the street). I was just too "modeled out". I ended up napping in afternoon and watching "Dr who" on the telly.
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
For the forseeable future IPMS UK Scale Modelworld as I see it will remain at the Telford International Centre. IPMS UK gets a good deal for the venue. There was a comment made in an earlier post intimating about the organisers not growing with the show.
It has been suggested that it goes to the NEC (National Exhibition Centre) in Birmingham. Whilst the event has grown, Telford remains much more manageable than going to the NEC. In fact it has grown from using 2 halls to using the whole of the Telford venue of all 3 main halls and also all the available suites on site.
The NEC granted has bigger halls but the car parks are vast and cost £10.00 per day to park. You need to catch a bus from the furthest! IPMS would have to charge the general public (non members) more for admission to help recover the increased costs for taking on halls in a venue of this size, as well as jack up the traders fees, and possibly increase the IPMS UK Membership fees as well. Telford also has more hotels within walking distance of the venue than the NEC and the society gets a favourable rate from a number of the nearest ones.
Telford is a big enough venue considering that the organisation and running of the show is done on a voluntary basis by IPMS. The current location suits on a number of counts, and is located centrally within the UK.
