PennCon - September 16th - Carlisle,Pa. - Update.
The show at Carlisle was great. The models were OUT - OF - SIGHT. Got to give a big hand to the judges. They had a heck of a job picking winners. Wish I had a camera. Maybe someone out there was taking pics and will share.
I was among the many who voted for the model that won the peoples choice award. For you "car guys", It was a diorama model of a Texaco gas station and surrounding lot about the size of a large card table. Would take hours to tell all the things shown in there. If you could think of it, it was there plus all kinds of stuff you couldn't. The work was flawless. I was talking to him for about 1/2 hour and helped him, with the help of 2 other guys, move it from one table to another. They gave him a table all to himself as other models came in and they needed more room.
Loads of vendors there with lots of kits. Good spread of choices. Lots of boxes of decals and PE. Also vendors with 3D printed stuff for 1/144, 1/72 and 1/48 kits. Loved the box of 6 bladed props. They looked great.
I entered 7 models and brought home a Bronze for a 1/144 Suchoj S-37 Berkut, a Bronze for a 1/48 F9F-5 Panther of VA-192, Pilot Lt. Harry Brubaker as shown in "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" movie and a Silver for a 1/35 "Jeep", 82nd Recon. Battalion, 2nd Armored Div.,Germany 1945.
Bought my usual 12 raffel tickets for $10 plus a special ticket for a compressor and airbrush combo for $5. Hit for 4 kits and the compressor/airbrush combo. It was a fantastic day all around. Had my niece and her 2 sons with me and they had a great time too. My niece took some pics, I'll see if she can send them to the wifes phone and we can download them to my computer.
Stopped on the way home and had a great dinner of Won Ton soup, shrimp roll and Moo Goo Gai Pan with pork fried rice. Yummmmmmm. What a way to end a great day.
Stay safe.
