      Hey those kits look just like one of my parts drawer contents. I bought the stuff all mixed up at a yard sale. I saw many things in there that get used on ships , believe it or not !  In 1/96 scale all those diamond tread areas make good floors for the open 40 MM gun mounts .

      I also used some of the parts to creat a deep diving  minisub for an oceanographic research conversion I am doing to LINDBERG,S minesweeper kit. Can these still be found ? They look verry interrestiing !          tankerbuilder

Hi ! I thought the PROMETHEUS was the ship in that movie where they swam around inside that fellow. Am I wrong ? I wonder , because the model is nothing like the ship in the movie. If I am off base here , sorry ,       tankerbuilder

Once upon a time, someone made an in scale APC for the dropship. I never got it because it was crazy expensive and the ship itself would be a major overhaul to really detail out just to add the APC.

 I bought the shuttle Ripley uses to escape the Nostromo, the name escapes me, but the kit was in 1/144 scale.

I also got a couple of the APCs the Marines used as well as the drop ship and a few of the larger scale Aliens. The APC is probably my favorite, the drop ship is rather disappointing; it doesn't even hold up to an old Hasegawa AH-64 Apache helicopter I bought when that first came out.

The shuttle was named "Narcissus," and I have one waiting for final detailing and weathering.

I also have a dropship in the stash somewhere.  You're right about the disappointing detail.  Mine's waiting for my scratchbuilding skills to be up to detailing the completely blank APC bay.

The model will be more entertaining than the movie.

the resin ones are just too small or too expensive.

it's a double-whammy. Resin is expensive, and so is the licensing.

The boxes have seen better days, but this thread motivated me to dig around for some of the older Halcyon kits. I did not locate the shuttle but I did find the built APC, just forgot to add it to the pile before I took the picture. Also a couple of old Revell Robotech kits that happened to be in the same moving box. I know I have a few built and unbuilt Aliens, but I didn't find them during my afternoon spelunking trip.

Centerdeck2, if you were asking me, Yep, 2 big ones. Like I said, nice but Wheew the price! If I had the cash I'd rather splash for a resin Outrider kit.

Yes, Alien was actually a horror movie and probably the scariest movie I had seen when it came out. Aliens was "Rambo in Space". It was a good, entertaining movie and fit right in with the fantasy action movies of the 1980s. It also gave us the now-standard sci-fi studly Hispanic supporting female character who is generally tougher then most of the male soldiers around. (see Resident Evil, Avatar, Battle Los Angeles, et al).

Never could figure out why Ripley would PO the queen by torching her eggs when she was going to nuke the planet from orbit anyway.

I had posted a reply during the exact moments the forum went into change. I don't recall everything I wrote, but I recall the larger spaceships like the Nostromo and Sulaco being over $100 and the APC and shuttle in the over $40 range, prices that were virtually unheard of in the early 1990s for plastic model kits.

Even the first Dragon model kits were just over $30 back then, another unheard of price at the time. The Halcyon kits were hard to find; I bought mine at a comic book store I used to frequent outside of Fort Hood in Killeen, TX. The regular hobby shops (two in town) didn't carry them.

The older Halcyon Nostromo is still a worthy kit too, if you can get it.

I was just at 'Monsters in Motion' today and they had a Nostromo kit sitting on the shelfs, nice but Wheeew! the price!!

Would be good to see this made in kit form, but as for me, I doubt I would buy it.

Scale Solutions makes a fine "boneship" case in resin, and the seller has 30% off at the minute. A great looking kit that comes with a mini pilot and pilot room covered with a transparent dome..nice kit.

The older Halcyon Nostromo is still a worthy kit too, if you can get it.

1984? that was the year I bought my first new car (1984 Wolfsburg Edition VW Rabbit).

Yes, the Prometheus would have looked too futuristic for Firefly, but the overall look of the Serenity was odd and looked out of place. For a cargo ship, it seems ungainly and smallish (cargo bay interior) with an awful lot of living space, more than the crew needed.

Personally, I always thought that the Serenity was just right for the story.  Something like Prometheus thrown in would have looked good, but been odd plot-wise, IMO.

This ship in this story is supposed to be a pretty new ship for exploration duty.  Serenity was supposed to be more clunky, kinda like the first cars some of us guys had ( mine was an '84 Chevette, and I still have the keys though the car's been gone for almost 20 years ).

I loved Firefly; I was attending the Army Logistics Management College at Ft. Lee, VA when it came out. I remember talking to my wife about this new sci-fi show that was really great. When I came home in December 2002, I was looking for it on TV to show her, and it wasn't there. They just ended the series.

A few years later I picked up the DVD that had all the episodes, even the unaired ones, in order. The series made more sense after watching them in order.

My money is in the "hope pile"... hoping that Mobius does one... and maybe in that case we'll get a Sulaco that is affordable!

and now that you say so, you're right it does resemble the serenity... this is what that ship should have been. i always thought serenity looked sorta silly. (but the show was great, i miss it dearly)

Prometheus was a decent movie, though i did feel like it moved way to fast. all the things that happened did so at an alarming rate and it seemed like we were moving on to the next scene before they fully explained the one we just left. it needed to be more like a three hour movie to capture everything well enough. but definitely entertaining and worth seeing in the theater.

I'll bet we get only resin unless Mobius or Polar Light can pull one out of the hat. I for one would love a plastic Alien horseshoe kit, the resin ones are just too small or too expensive.

The current movie had too many hidden agendas and clueless plot devices (why did characters do this or that) and never really answered the questions that were the whole point of the journey.

I can see a sequel being made in a couple of years regardless of how well it does in theaters.

Overall, it was an entertaining movie. The ship was vastly superior in design to the Serenity in Firefly, but seemed like it suffered from the Tardis Effect; way too much inside stuff to fit in the central hull.

Probably in about 3 years would be my guess, and even then in resin.

Unfortunately, if there's anything in plastic, it will take a bit longer.  Just look at how long it took for the kits from Galaxy Quest and the newest War of the Worlds.

Looks very might like an advanced firefly class. With the movie having Joss Whedon s input it wouldnt surprise me.
