What modelling related publications do you subscribe to other than FSM?

Knowing what genres of modeling you are into would help. If you are mainly an aircraft modeler, suggesting high end armor modeling magazines would be a waste of time.

Tamiya's magazines are very very good. As is Military Modelcraft. I pick them both up on the news stand each month. For armor modelers that want to actually learn something.. they're hard to beat. There are others but those two are easily gotten stateside or by digital magazine.

IPMS Journal, available to members- I assume you could give a gift certificate.

Seriously, are you trying to get her into scale modeling- is she already interested?  I wonder why there are so many hobbies and crafts that are so sex-restricted. I have known only a few women modelers.

I hunt for old Verlinden mags...  The LHS has gobs of old ones on sale for .50 cents a copy.. Other than FSM though, I don't subscribe to anything..  I can find enough "others" on the 'net.. As far as I'm concerned, I get more use out of this and other forums than modeling rags..  Since the demise of Scale Modeler and Military Modeler magazines, FSM is the only one I've kept.. Been subscribing off and on since the rag's inception... The years I didn't sub, I bought from the news stand..

The only other modeling magazine I subscribe to is Scale Auto, also published by Kalmbach.

Related to my interest in Naval aviation modeling, I also subscribe to The Hook (the journal of the Tailhook Association) and Naval Aviation News.

Although I don't subscribe to it, I also buy Model Railroader frequently.

Another idea is a gift card to  Barnes & Noble or other such establishment for books on your favorite subject.  Oh yeah... my favorite place in the universe.....   http://www.powells.com/

One of the most amazing places in Portland, Oregon.

The only other modeling magazine I subscribe to is Scale Auto, also published by Kalmbach.

 Same here.  Though for non-modeling magazines related to my modeling interests,  I do subscribe to Aviation History, Flight Journal, Smithsonian Air & Space and Vintage Truck in print.  I also subscribe to the digital editions of Car Craft, Muscle Car Review, Hot Rod, Mopar Muscle and Super Chevy.

An iPad, so when you're sitting on the couch together watching TV in the evening, you can peruse this, and other very good online forums.  Seriously, I get a TON more usable information on these forums than in the magazines.  I do also enjoy my digital FSM on my iPad, too.  It's great to use as a repository for the magazines for reference work.

She could get you a membership to AMPS. One year is $30 and includes a six issue subscription to the Boresight magazine (the official journal of the Armor Modeling and Perservation Society). It is a pretty good armor-only modeling magazine and you become a member of a modeling club.

Payment can be made by Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, check or money order.

Hi;

        I know this has been here for a while, but now that the fuss is over I can take the time to answer it correctly . I ,of course get FSM , SCALE AUTO , MODEL RAILROADER , I.P.M.S. journal as well as SCALE SHIP MODELER magazine  and WOODEN BOAT .

         I also get POWERBOAT and another work related book WORKBOATS. these keep me informed about most of my interests .I also get books on R.V stuff and such . OH , before I forget , because I carve wooden birds I also get WOODWORKING and other mags about scrollsawing and intarsia . The carving is an outlet to wind down from working on a ship model for many weeks or months .I also do read the TRIPP catalogue for jewelry supplies. I do use their stuff in my building .
