I was totally alone in my modeling interests for a long time, then something wonderful happened.  I was in Home Depot a couple years ago looking for some special hardware to mount a model aircraft.  A gentleman who worked there (about my age (70+) offered to help me find what I was looking for.  After awhile I told him what I wanted the parts for, and he said he was a modeler, too.  So we talked about our interests for a long time, and he invited me to join the local IPMS club that met montly at Hobby Town.  He and I became good friends, still are, and I go to the meeting every month where I met 15 new friends who are outstanding modelers.  We have "show and tell" each time, with everybody bringing a past or present project to show, sometimes someone will put on a demo of a technique, etc.  And I found out later that my friend from Home Depot is a former pilot with combat experience flying an A-6 in Vietnam, and many of the other guys are veteran pilots, too.

So keep your hopes up, Tankerbuilder.  You never know what might pop up any day.  May you too find this kind of friendship locally.

Tankbuilder, I have no idea what prompted your post but keep the chit chat coming.  We are here for more than just tech talk.

Tankerbuilder, I too can completely relate to in the realm of modeling isolation. Like littletimmy there I live in a small town in S.E. Utah (Moab) and as far as I know I am the only active modeler in the area. The closest LHS is 100 miles away in Grand Junction Co. So, with the advent of the internet and subsequently this forum I am now able to enjoy my hobby a 100 fold. It was one thing to just build but, to be able to talk modeling and to share my work others for critique and/or appreciation is really fantastic. So, keep the chat coming as I certainly appreciate it.

Yea it's a inside joke with my friends. the first non-snaptogether kit I built I left a thumbprint on the roof. As I progressed in my modeling I left less and less of myself on the models. But once I started getting paid to build for others I thought I should sign them like artwork. Hence a thumbprint in a non-visable place.  It does'nt work in 1/87th scale tho.....  my thumb is bigger than the trucks!   :)

You are not alone. I live 40 miles outside of winnemucca nv. the nearest road is 10 miles away. The nearest pavment is 20. The nearest hobby shop (r.c. stuff) is 170 miles away.  I like being away from it all but the cats dont care if I get the camoflauge on a sub right or not. So get carried away with your occasional rant or rave.....   I"ll listen. :)
