I had an inquiry about the stash, so I thought I'd bump this thread instead of hi-jacking another!

My real space/Sci-Fi section:

A few under another table/workbench:

More above the display shelves (that are still under construction!):

And the three main shelves of plastic bliss!:

Sorry for the mess.  Had other issues in other sections of the basement that made it necessary to move a lot of stuff into my hobby room (my music studio is also full of stuff!)

Oh, and I have a box with about 27 kits that are my trade/sell kits.  Actually found some that I would not build.......unless they sit around long enough and I get attached to them!  Whistling

I wonder how many folks are laughing at us re the old thread, Eagle?

That said, I'm glad you resurrected this. Holy cow, what a stash. Talk about using up every nook and cranny.

All of the stashes shown are incredible.

Next time I get "the look" for buying a kit, I'm going to pull up this thread and announce "You'd better knock it off, or I'll do this". Yeah, right. .......I'm gonna do that. Uh-huh. Sure.

LOL!  yeah, I'm sure they are, but hey, it is a great thread and you are correct, there are some awesome stash's out there!  After the last estate sale I did...multiple times!  I had to start putting them any place I could.  I love estate sales but hope I don't run into too many more...at least until I can win the lottery!

I thought about trying that too.  I chickened out!

The low price of kits at swap meets has certainly ballooned my stash during the last two years. While my current stash still isn't as large as those in this thread, I figure the low price paid means that I can afford to not build all of them in my lifetime.

Well Eagle got me motivated to share my stash with you all. It is indeed too cool of a thread to let die out. There's 101 kits pictured here that are slated to be built. I have a further 120+ boxed up in my storage bus that are my to be traded/sold. The post it notes you see on most of my kits are a quick reference as to what AM parts I have for each one. Enjoy!

If you have trouble getting anyone to understand your stash, and you rob parts from one kit to use on another model, you can tell them this.  I bought half of those kits over there for the detail parts in the box,,,,,,resin sets cost $20, I paid $5 at a show for each of those kits,,,,,look at how much money I saved.

I really do that, I bought an F-89 to get the two Genies for the Phantom test aircraft, bought an F-15 for the ASAT missile on a different company's F-15 model, buy A-1 models for the HPAR rockets for Panthers and Banshees, different A-1 models to get the SUU-11 gun pods.  Each Hasegawa Phantom builds a nice complicated, relaxing build, and in the bargain supplies a "detail set" for some of the cheaper Phantoms on the market.  In each case, the parts either aren't made by the aftermarket,,,,,,,or the plastic upgrades are cheaper than resin parts for the other models.

Of course, between always taking off the shrinkwrap from every model,,,,,and having 2-10 parts swapped out of some of them,,,,,my collection isn't worth what other people's might be worth,,,,,,,,,,but Anne and I didn't buy the models as an investment, we bought them for me to build, or to get the parts or decals out of.

Cool stash, Joe! This resurrected thread is resurrecting some memories. Thinking of telling my other half I'm going over to Joe's (or Eagle's, or one of the other great stashes here) to play for a while. Smile

Hey Sprue.  We have one model show a year here in Vermont/NE New York.  I always have a great time with the local clubs then (don't have much time to hit the meetings with the wife's medical issues), but I did get a letter from them last week!  I guess they saw my entry into the FSM article and they invited me to their meetings!  Might have to try and go to one before winter!

First off...not worth much?  Man, you are warehouse of parts!  I bet you have helped out tons of people with parts you have laying around!  I wouldn't say not worth much! Wink Second, I too buy to build!  Not much into "collecting" kits.  That's a whole different world.  LOL!  I have some old kits that are "worth" lots of $!  I'm going to build them!  I had a guy at the last model show offer me double what this "old" kit was worth so he could collect it!  Huh?  I think it's cool and want to see it on my shelves someday!

ROFL Joe

That would be terrible, haha.

Anne knows in detail what the last 200 kits or so actually cost,,,,,,,you should have seen her when I bought the OOP Weasel Phantom and tore off the shrink wrap At The Show We Bought It At.  I had a few Weasels, and I had many decals for Weasels,,,,but, I didn't have the "Blue Box" Hasegawa Weasel,,,,,,so, I paid $50 for one, lol (about $19 when new, I suppose)  We did the same thing with the original release of the RF-4C, I wanted one specific markings option from that boxing, the guy offered to sell the decals only to me,,,,,,I told him I better take the whole kit because he wouldn't get anything for it without a decal sheet in it.  I will use it for another thick wing RF-4B or some such.

We don't worry about the expense all that much, because most of the other kits are bought at a huge discount.

And as has been said by others,,,,,,even a larger than 500 kit stash is still cheaper than the very basics in many other hobbies.

I always like topics like this ! It’s amazing to see all the kits everybody have. And many of them are on my wish list ...

And here I was getting a bit "worried" when my stash reached 60 kits ...

Just a thought : it seems that aircrafts are extremely popular (more than AFV or cars or Sci-fi)

I hope the Armor guys don't take offense.  That is a pretty big modeling genre all by itself. And remember, the Armor guys have both IPMS and AMPS,,,,,,we aircraft guys don't have our own separate association like that.

Indeed aircraft models do make up the largest portion of the hobby. You only have to look at the GB's and WiP threads on here. But despite aircraft making up about 75% of my stash, I do prefer doing armour. Its just that there is more variety in aircraft in my chosen areas.

Most people do seem to stick to one or the other, but there are a few of us who cross over.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I notice the largest collections are usually stored in the basement .......the stashes may fall on the owner like Fibber McGee's closet contents but at least the floor joists won't give way.Whistling

Lots of great stashes here!

Eagle, yours comes close to a well-stocked hobby shop...

Here's mine (and my AM treasure chest)

I have plenty of room in all those drawers to store all my modelling stuff quite easily.

From top to bottom:

The first drawer holds all my tools:

The second one contains my paints:

The first 3 rows are RLM colors, the next 2 are USAAF/USN colors, followed by a row of RAF/Japanese aircraft colors. Next up are the paints I use for armor, 2 rows of generic colors and the last one for miscellanious colors (mostly for modern aircraft) To the right are a bunch of Tamiya colors I got to add to my Gunze paint lineup (mostly paints that work better for certain things or that simply aren't available in Gunze's paint range)

The drawer didn't have any rails in it to keep the jars from sliding around, so I simply bought some cheap wood profiles (1cm x 1cm) to build one myself. They are glued in place using white glue:

Next up is the drawer for all my weathering stuff as well as my scratchbuilding supplies:

the next 2 have all my aircraft AM goodies in them:

Resin:

Only the far right stuff is 1/48, the rest is 1/32. BTW, did I mention I like Aires' stuff?

PE, seatbelts, decals and masks:

The bottom drawer contains my small collection of Armor accessories:

It's not much because I usually only add a metal gun barrel and sometimes a set of Friuls to my armor builds. There are exceptions of course (in this case a Pz.IV I'm slowly working on atm)

I also got me two shelves to store my stash in (instead of stacking the boxes on the floor):

Fear not, Jay! I got half the German army here waiting for your orders! Well, not really, but still a couple of decent armor kits. I'm trying to get me some armor kits that are not Dragon, but they are just so bloody lovely kits...

From top to bottom: Modern vehicles/ Russian WW2, British/American WW2, Tiger/King TIger/Panther

German TDs/light tanks/Halftracks, Pz.III/Pz.IV, Artillery/Field guns (and Eduard's Hetzer 'cause it didn't fit anywhere else Wink)

Aircraft stash:

1/48 Jets/Dual Combos, 1/48 Allied WW2,  1/48 Allied/German WW2

1/48 German WW2, 1/32 Allied WW2, 1/32 German/Japanese WW2

I added another Pz.IV ( Dragon's Ausf.H w/ Zimmerit) after those pics were taken as well as Monogram's B-24 which I'm planning to build as "The Dragon and his Tail" at some point in the future...

It's not nearly as much as some other guys have, but it's all mine and every single one of those kits is at least decent quality-wise with some of them being real gems (the 1/48 Jugs come to mind or the big Hasegawa kits)

Clemens, It is awesome to finally get to see your stash and some of your space. Magnificent collection of kits. Definitely some sweet kits. Now, how about a pic of the warehouse you'll need to display such an array of big kits. I am troubled my dear friend. I believe that your modeling enviroment is way too clean and way too organized. You need some clutter and some chaos in there so there at least looks like there is some activity going on. You know, like, maybe a pic of a bench crammed with 9 FW 190s.Wink

Well, as I recall, you were in the area just recently. If you've done it once you can do it again. You know that I would love to have you come visit Clemens.

Clemens shows something that gets glossed over in "stash threads"

We all show photos of piles of kits, and we all marvel at how many some people have. But Clemens shows his Paint stash, his PE stash, and his Resin parts stash. That leaves the many decal stashes, and "hobby specific" book stashes. Those other five stashes are sometimes the places that the "real money" goes to. As expensive as plastic kits seem sometimes,,,,,often that part of the hobby is the cheapest. ($4 to $6 a bottle for paint, $10 to $20 per decal sheet, $40 for a paperback book,,,,,you get the idea)

Eagle: Coming to my place might be a bit hard to do unless you fance flying all the way to Austria... Wink

Joe: Do you want a picture of how my bench looks when I'm actually working on those 190s or one of it kinda sorta cleaned up after I'm done for the day?

Rex: I have to agree with you on that one. A half-decent selection of tools is bloody expensive. AM sets aren't the cheapest part of the hobby either. My P-47 AM stuff costs at least as much as all my Jug kits. The paints aren't that expensive because I thin them quite heavily most of the time. One bottle of Gunze paint sets me back 2,90€ and Tamiya paints are 4,40€ each.
