Japan launches largest warship since WWII

Check this out, I posted it in the Ship Forum earlier but think it will get better reception here.   They classify it as a destroyer!

Kobyashi Maru or Mushashi would be good names for it as well..

It is an odd looking destroyer though...  I don't see a single 5" gun anywhere.

At 820 feet she is the longest destroyer that I know of by far.

At 820 feet she is the longest destroyer that I know of by far.

Same length as the USS Tarawa (LHA-1) Amphibious Assault ship. Interesting, especially if they opt for the F-35B sometime in the future.

Interesting, apparently the Japanese don't operate anything bigger than a destroyer and the term was deemed less aggressive sounding than say light or helicopter carrier.

Seems she's a little larger than the similar South Korean Dokdo class helicopter carrier / amphibious assault ships and slightly smaller than the Chinese light carrier Lianoning.

I can see them operating the F-35B, no doubt about it. Maybe even some old AV-8Bs in the interim. They are squabbling over the Senkaku Islands with the Chinese.

SWEEEEET!!       and little scary.

What are they up to? Destroyer huh? True, I guess. When deployed and fully loaded she'll be able to "destroy" quite a bit, so..........

Bill.

On the bench:  Lindberg 1/32 scale 1934 Ford Coupe and a few rescue projects.

In queue:  Tamiya 1/35 Quad Tractor or a scratch build project.

Hi;

Well , I don't know about you ,but at 820 feet in length I would have to call her a Carrier ! And she's a nice looking one too .Destroyer , Yeah Sure !       Tanker - Builder

I think we got up to CV-9 when the fight decks became longer by more than just a couple of feet.

CV-8 Hornet- 824 foot flight deck

Maybe Japan would be interested in some B-25s..
