Ok, last night was, again, a very good night for the meteors. Saw 10 or 12 in 15 minutes. Also (and this MUST have been the ISS) I watched a dual set of unblinking lights slowly track across the sky, one behind and slightly offset from the other. I'm assuming the station was about to dock with or recently separated from a supply module.

In queue:  Tamiya 1/35 Quad Tractor or a scratch build project.

I drove about an hour north of Phoenix to catch the Perseids away from city lights early yesterday morning. Saw quite a few of them!

Beware of meteor showers:

As to tracking the ISS, this is the site I use: spotthestation.nasa.gov/home.cfm

The streak between the trees is the ISS about a year ago.

Awesome! There's been times that I thought I might be lookin at the ISS passin over but not sure of it's path or schedule so, I dunno. i have software to track that but  hmmm, haven't used it in awhile.

I did see several satellites last night. The brightest one could've been it

A year or two ago, I went out in the wee hours to see the space station with shuttle Discovery parked nearby, fly over.  That was really impressive.  They appeared as two bright points of light, close together, rose in the southwest over the mountains and flew overhead and disappeared into the early morning dawn.

Saw them again the next night, only this time Discovery had moved about 40 miles away from the station.  They were quite a bit farther apart than the previous night.

What was neat about it was that the whole show, horizon to horizon, lasted 3 or 4 minutes, and I really could get an appreciation of their speed!

It was a crystal clear, dark night here in Colorado so conditions for viewing were perfect at 5000 feet plus, elevation.  Amazing sight!

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Meteor showers

Wow! Outside with my dogs last night I just happened to see several meteors within a few seconds. So I kept a going out to check and it was fairly consistent til I went to bed about 1:30 ish. Apparently what I saw could be part of either the Perseids or Delta Aquarids, or both. In any event, in the past I have made time to observe these showers and never saw meteors at the frequency of last night's accidental viewing. Most were only brief flashes and streaks, however, some were bright enough to cast my shadow on the ground and burn across the sky for 3 -4 seconds and more. Pretty impressive.

Check it out. The Delta Aquarids could linger on for another week or so and the Perseids are said to peak this weekend. Get out there!
