Well it is inexpensive and easy to find!I carved the pieces using the sanding drum of my Dremel,a 1/4" wood chisel and my Stanley block plane.I did not use walnut because this is my first attempt at carving grips and I did not want to ruin an expensive piece of wood if I botched the job.Luckily the project turned out very well! P.S. I used a 1/2" straight bit on my router table to make the fore end.
That looks great. Why did you choose oak? It's beautiful, but hard to work with IMHO.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Carved them out of red oak.Came out pretty well for my first try!
