We have a family cabin up on the Big Thompson River near Estes park.  First cabin was wiped out in the flash flood in 1976 (I think) and the new one was built a little further back from the river banks.  We've been unable to get up to the cabin to see if it's okay, but judging by the aerial video Larimer county Sherrif was able to put out, the cabin "looks" okay.

My house is just down the street from  Buckley AFB (My wife hates it, I love it) and it's been a lot of activity lately.  Seen a lot of Blackhawks and Chinooks buzzing about.

Not sure about that just yet. Hurricane Katrina probably still holds the record. We'll see what the numbers work out to, but things will need to settle down for a while before that can happen, I think.

Two personal friends of mine have already lost their homes to flooding. Others are stranded in the mountain areas and have been asked to decide if they want to evac out by air in the next two weeks, or remain there for the winter. Every single road accessing rural mountain communities has been compromised or severely damaged, and estimates are that repairs will take months. At least into next summer. To a guy like me who has traveled many of these roads in my Jeep while offroading up there, it's almost incomprehensible.

Our thoughts are with those who have lost possessions, or worse.  TV news here reported it would be the largest domestic airlift in American history.

Thanks, Chris.  We are safe here in Longmont, but the town is a mess with lots of roads closed or washed out. The town has been cut in half- you can't travel north/south through it because of washed out bridges.   I am thankful that our house seems to be in a pretty safe area.  Scary stuff...

You guys stay safe, too-

Chuck

In light of the severe flooding, property damage and lives lost in the flooding along the Front Range, here's hoping everyone is ok. Thoughts and good karma headed your way.
