Saw it on DVD this past weekend. Had to keep slapping myself to stay awake. Bill Murray said like 10 words. The script must have been written by preschoolers. Hollywood continues to disappoint. Yes, a heart felt show with a good point, but still...
Saw the movie this weekend and I really liked it!
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
I just rented it last night. I'm in agreement with stik. Enjoyable but certainly not a shoot'em up type of movie and not one of the best movies I've watched.
Saw it on the big screen. Thought it told an interesting story.
I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.
I keep trying to remember to get the book, alas I always forget. Now I need to remember to get the movie too....this could take a while!

I finally got to see this movie the other night- in the comfort of my own home. It was enjoyable to me. Not the greatest movie, but not bad either. Certainly not a "shoot 'em up" action adventure tale. But certainly worth a look. Very well done. I will be adding it to my DVD library. Now I need to find the book to read it and see how close to actuality the film was done.

Yes,I will check this one out also.
Several paintings recovered by the Monuments Men are going on the auction block in New York City this week. Proceeds will be going to Jewish survivors according to the story Reuters posted earlier today. I am looking forward to seeing the movie. The book was great reading.
Yes, I saw the same news a few days ago... most interesting how this particular aspect of WWII still is happening nearly 70 years after the war ended.
Just today in the news- Bavarian officials discover 1 billion euro art cache including Picassos in apartment of son of Nazi art dealer
I'm looking forward to it.

It's different and a part of the war that we give little, if any thought too.
Cheers,

"Yesterday is history, Tomorrow a mystery, but Today is a gift. That is why it is called the "present".

Side note: I was there in march and "ran into" Jon Bon Jovi.
But all of the reviews seem to praise the book so I'd give it the benefit of the doubt.
Interesting.
Here's the book: http://www.amazon.com/Monuments-Men-Thieves-Greatest-Treasure/dp/1599951509/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1381789228&sr=1-1&keywords=the+monuments+men
I've heard of other books on the subject. How accurate is this book?
On the bench: Tamyia Mosquito Mk. VI for the '44 group build. Yes, still.
On deck:
Indeed it was. I went into that one with no real expectations as I did not know the source material or real story. Came out of the theater loving it. "Flags of Our Fathers", "The Great Raid" ("Ghost Soldiers"), and "Valkyrie", I went in to knowing the real stories and was content with how they filmed them. "Letters From Iwo Jima" was another pleasant suprise as I know some of the source material from various readings, but was still unfamiliar with how Clint planned to tackle that one. Of the two Iwo Jima movies that he made, I think I prefer "Letters" just a bit more than "Flags" as a war story so to speak. "Flags" is much better at the after story. Seen back to back, they make a powerful telling of the story from both sides from well before to well after that battle.
stikpusher Last few of this sort that I can recall were Valkyrie and Defiance.
Last few of this sort that I can recall were Valkyrie and Defiance.
Ooohh Defiance was real good. Gonna be hard to top that one. The cast looks good. Matt Damon seems to do ok when he's given a soldier or spy/kickazz type of role.
Yes, Bill Murray and John Goodman working together (as 'soldiers' at that) ought to be something to see.
I agree stik, looks like a good one for a change. Besides.....Bill Murray!......it has to be good!

OK, I found the other trailer
I would not want to be the guy below helping him.. he's a big boy! There is another trailer for this floating around out there as well. That was the one I saw first and it caught my eye enough to where I wanted to share it here. In any case, it looks good to me, and at least there is this film to look forward to seeing in a theater. Last few of this sort that I can recall were Valkyrie and Defiance.
I hope somebody got John goodman over that obstacle
Looks pretty cool to me
I read the book too and really liked it.
I read the book about this. It is a very interesting story. I hope the movie is as good as the book.
It has a good cast. Doesn't look silly to me, a little light hearted, maybe. But it is based on factual circumstances. Silly to me were The Dirty Dozen, The Guns of Navarone and the others of that ilk.
I'll give it a chance before I pre-judge it.
I'm from the government and I'm here to help.
Good find, something to look forward to. Can't be any worse than some of the other tripe that has been released lately :)
looks silly to me. Might be good for a laugh though.
Intersting looking movie coming out- not your standard WWII rescue mission- the trailer looks good. One of the first movies I am actually looking forward to this year.
