So I'm out in the park with a camera this morning, looking for something wildlife-related for tomorrow's paper when I spy a Great Blue Heron stalking a meal from a hand railing over a wetlands area. As a bird picture goes, it's pretty static....
But what I heard (and shot) afterwards made my morning.. the sound of something heavy flying far overhead- something sounding not quite right for normal air traffic in this region. Curious, I look up and see this-
I was barely able to track them, adjust my exposure and get two frames off before they were lost in cloud cover.
I'm guessing a KC-135 and a JSTARS?
That's cool.
Look at the difference in the engines
Both pics are very cool! I always enjoy seeing wildlife and the mid air refueling is cool, too.
I fly for a living and one time we had a KC-135 refueling a C-17 fly right underneath us. The was pretty sweet.

Long ago, I was a private pilot flying a little Piper Cherokee. I was alerted by ATC about oncoming traffic, then I saw coming below me at maybe 500 feet lower and off the port side, were a P-51 and P-38 flying in formation, on their way to the air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It was a most impressive site!
I didn't fly into Oshkosh- with all that traffic, it was above my skill level at the time. Drove the car up there the next day and saw these warbirds flying!
Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...
Looks like there's some differences in the wing shapes too.
We ran the refueling on our front page today, but the bird didn't see print.
I ride in airplanes for a living. One time a B-52 came under us headed 225 to our heading at a couple thousand below us. Very very awesome.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Excellent pic of the Blue Heron. We have those around here but are pretty rare.

Hmmm;
When I used to fly I was going to the airshow in AKRON , Oh. My son was in the top turret of our bird and excitedly called to me " Dad ,Look Up ! ' Sure enough there was a " Buff " passing above us in that very clear sky .
I wonder what that crew thought of the old B-25 lumbering along below them . Remember that was almost forty years ago too . Gees , I miss those days . Oh , the Heron photo was great too .Rare bird and full shot .Marvelous .
The Buff crew was probably just as happy to see you and your B-25 as you were to see them (and possibly glad that they didn't have to do the missions that the Mitchell crews had to do back in the war).
Herons, egrets, raptors- we've got all kinds of birdies down here.

Newspaper? I spent quite a few years printing newspapers (and yea, I still like reading them).
Where did you find a 1:1 scale plastic heron? Revell True Life Adventures?

Tomz2- lol, it's a small-batch resin casting!
I was out in the park (again) this morning and found a birdy that quite accurately expresses everyone's opinion of Monday mornings....
I guess it hasn't had its coffee yet.
