Poor guy! That is one well preserved corpse. But it does not look like his feet were "broken" as the article stated, it looks like he had traumatic amputation to both from the photo.

It is a scientific fact that peat moss bog field does have natural preservatives to stop decomposting of bodies and the like. There's something on bog field that keeps everything from decomposing. There are discoveries in Ireland of such archeaologists finding preserved bodies in bog marshes. Here's one example:

Even National Geographic magazine did an article on Irish bog bodies discovered. I know I read that article a few years back.

I agree. Who knew tanks or even aircraft can be preserved after 60 plus years.

What a sad story. RIP and a Beer to that pilot.

Your first thought is that it is a hoax but I too have read about something in the chemical makeup of the bog that helps preserve things. Not a person but just look at the T34 that was found with everything just about intact including the paint. And like Styk said, the feet were severed clean off during the impact. I had the ugly task to respond to the scene of a small private plane aircrash back in the 1980's and noticed that the shoes came off from on two victims, one loosing one foot as in this picture. Not a pretty sight.
