Whats new in the mail?
Posted by USMC6094 on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 7:30 AM

I got this idea from another forum I dont go to very often, but it was fun to see what varying things show up in peoples mail boxes or front porches all in honor of this hobby, whether its new kits for the stash, reference material, paint/tools etc., or accessories for the aforementioned new additions to the stash.

Pictures arent a must, but they do add to the flavor of the thread, so here goes, (no pictures as of yet, I've only been home long enough to sleep this week)

Yesterday Hasegawa Weapons Set "C", missles and gun pods....................

Hey, This sounds like fun. Let's see..2 days ago, received A Hobby Boss 1/48 F8F-1 Bearcat and Squadrons Walk Around books for the B-25 and He 111. These were part of my birthday present. Hopefully, tomorrow, a new camera arrives.

A new additions thread, nice idea. I have just placed my monthly orders today, mostly figures and some other items for my Pz III build, so will post those when they arrive. But heres a few of the additions to the stash I have got in the last couple of months.

Many years ago I built quite a few of the old Star wars kits. Some didn't survive and while I do have a few, I have decided to rebuild them all, hopefully better than last time. This is the last of those old kits added to the stash.

And a TIE bomber has been on the wanted list for ages, so when I came across one, it was snapped up.

I decided to add this as soon as it was released, will look nice next to the Type VII. But eventually my will power snapped and I could hold out no longer.

I've wanted this one for a while, but Amusing Hobby don't sel in the UK. When I saw it on E-bay at a good price, I went for it.

I've been trying to decide between the Revell and ZM HE 219 for ages. Finally I made a choice.

And a couple of kits I have been given by some very nice friends on here, as if I don't have enough to build Big Smile

Bills mainly. LOL!

I usually don't order model kits through the mail. I will order aftermarket stuff though. Most recent was machine gun for my Hellcat kit.  If there's a model kit I'm interested in, I usually order kits and certain acrylic paint colors through my LHS. Sometimes the owner will give me a discount.

I don't buy too many new kits these days, the purpose of my "build plan" was to cut down on kit buying and concentrate on getting things to finish the stash.

I am heavy into reading tips and discussions on FSM and other forums I belong to.

Because of discussions here on FSM about Acrylic Thinners and Primers, I have been getting a new Primer or Thinner every month or so. The latest is the AK Interactive Primer, said to be better than Vallejo's PolyUrethane primer. That came yesterday, along with some LifeColor paints that I did not yet have.

In a few days, I should have AK's Acrylic Thinner, supposed to work with AK, Vallejo and LifeColor,,,,,,as a sort of Universal Thinner. I found this during the search for the Primers. We will see just how "universal" this turns out to be. If it works, I will have only two thinners for all the Acrylics in my paint collection, simplifying things immensely.

I did "cheat" and buy the Pro Resin 1/72  F2H-2N at the last model show we were at,,,,it was discounted to  $45. It expanded the list by one more aircraft, but, included decals to make one of the F4Us easier to finish.

It was sent me by one of the members who was given it but doesn't build 72nd. I believe its one of a couple of boxing's by Fujimi of this kit. It didn't have any instructions but I managed to find some online.

It includes markings for Fighter town, so I am guessing that are the Special markings option. I've wanted to add an F-14 for a while but wasn't sure which one to get. But I do rather like Fujimi kits and this one looks nice.

NIIICE!!!!! Man Bish, given your absolute mastery of the 1/72, I can only imagine the magnificent treatment you will give that 1/32 Uhu. I will be on the sidelines for that project for sure. I have that same PV-1 Ventura kit sitting on my shelf partially built. Lacks detail and the bomb bay doors are a bit on the ill fitting side but, a nice kit nonetheless.

Recently, I got two AMT display cases - one the racetrack & the other a curbside. I also purchased a Trumpeter Cougar (early version) and Meng's water bottle accessory set.

Well, I hope I can do it justice. I plan on doing a couple of 72nd ones first so I can get a hang of the scheme. But I am just waiting to get some decent model display space and then I can get to some 32nd builds. The PV-1 is certainly not my normal ting but I think it will make a nice change and maybe something I can try some scratch building on.

I just got the Ara Press book on the Soviet N-1 moon rocket. Only had a quick look through at lunch time, but if you want to scratch build one or super detail the Realspace Models kit, this is the book to get. There are lots of illustrations of all components, including the lander.

Bish: Boy, I hear ya about space concerns. I'd love to build some 1/32 but I have no idea where I'd put them. Heck, I'm absolutely dying to build my 1/48 Monogram Pro Modeler PBY-1A Catalina and Academy 1/48 Sikorsky MH-53 Sea Dragon. But, alas, the wife resists surrendering the dining room to me for display space.

*BOOTY ALERT* - The 1/72 Eduard Messerschmitt bf110 G-2 Weekend Edition I ordered from Squadron during their last sale arrived today. Stoked.
