models that stand the test of time

The old Hasegawa 1/48 Phantom series is pretty good,as well as their F-15,F-16 and F-18,s from the 90's also build up nice

Well the Tasca Luchs may very well be one of those models in a while.

Monogram century series from the '80's, and their Nascar kits from the mid to late 90's

Pretty much all of Monogram's 1/48 jets, and large 1/48 aircraft (bombers & transports). I recently built Tamiya's 1/35 Type 97 Chi Ha tank, and that one has held up well for a nearly 40 year old kit as well. Some of Italeri's 1/35 tanks such as their Lepard I, Crusader, Panzer IV, and M4A1 76 still are nothing to sneer at.

   I would say the following .The TAMIYA "Perkasa " m.t.b .Or was that HASEGAWA ? Bought one recently and it was as good as the first I built back in the seventies . The one that really comes to mind , old tooling and all in the " SHELL WELDER " ship kit .I built it in the sixties and reacquired it twice .The last iteration " same molds " out of ROSSIA " RUSSIA ' ? Still a neat iteration of a coastal type tanker that bad molds and all, best exemplifies the ship type . She takes some work but is a looker when done carefully . Why ? How many coastal type , l lubrication/spirit tankers have you ever seen ?

Aurora's pop culture kits (mostly figures) from the 1960s and '70s. Though Aurora is long out of business, new companies like Polar Lights, Moebius, Atlantis, Monarch, and Pegasus have been started to bring back Aurora's old products and/or create new injected styrene kits in the same vein. What other line of kits has inspired this kind of devotion (and financial risk-taking)?

The old Monogram classic car kits are still very nice kits equal to any similar kits on the market.  They include the Duesenberg and Mercedes, et. all.

The classic Monogram 1/48 TBD. Even with the new Great Wall kit out there, this old girl can still still be quite stunning for a fraction of the price when compared.

Agreed about the old Aurora monster/horror kits. Too bad the licensing lawyers got involved in the pricing and such.

The Revell 1/96 USS Constitution. It's about fifty years old, and still one of the best plastic sailing ships on the market. Several threads about it are running right now in the "Ships" forum.

I'd put the Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark in the same category, but it hasn't been on the market for several years. I wish Revell would bring it back.

    You know what I would like to see ? ALL the good Classic Car kits from MONOGRAM , MPC , AMT , AURORA and JOHAN and REVELL brought out by a company that did only these .Including a lot no one ever did .Have you ever seen a model of a 32 MARMON ? Or how about  a 1934 LaSalle , or even a 1934 Pierce Arrow .( I went to high school in their old plant in BUFFALO , N.Y. ! ) Or even a 1917 BIRDSALL ( that company lasted two model years )

Monogram century series from the '80's

Love the F-100, 101, 102, 105 and 106. The molded detail is fantastic.

I built several of the Monogram century birds, the 100, 101 and 105. To me the F-101 Voodoo was the best followed closely by the F-105 Thunderchief. Would love to build them all again.

Those things are very dated- obviously from their era. But at the same time quite fun and have not lost one bit of their appeal, but at the same time adding a nostalgia appeal to our youth from those of us who remember building them the first time around when they were new....
