Squadron Shopping Spree Email
Posted by plasticjunkie on Sunday, July 13, 2014 1:46 PM

Got an email from Squadron regarding a $100 shopping spree thru the month of July.  I just got another one and you have to open it to see if you are a winner. They will be sending several thru the month. Of course I opened mine and did not win but  wonder if this is a gimmick or has any member here won anything similar from Squadron?

I have received the same e-mails.  I haven't won yet but will keep trying.

Why have modelers put a target on Squadron?  If it was Lucky Model, M&Models or Sprue Bros doing this, would this question be ask?  Now to answer the original query....you have a better chance at winning the shopping spree than getting the five-grand a week from PCH.

I use two different emails, my original AOL one from 1995-96, and a hotmail one I began using in 1998-99. They send an email to both. It says "one" lucky person will receive a $100 spending spree in the month of July. I've received at least 6 emails (all losers), three to each account.

I still stand by Squadron. It's the first mail order hobby shop I've used, and I've been a customer of theirs since 1987-88. As with any online or in store purchase, I always search around for the best deal. Sometimes it is Squadron, Sprue Bros., my local hobby shop, other times it is a buy/sell/trade post and sometimes it is eBay.

I use Squadron as the "standard" price; basically their price plus shipping to determine whether or not a model kit is a good deal. If I see a kit that catches my eye on eBay or offered in a forum, I'll check Squadron to see if it really is a good deal.

And who is putting a target on Squadron? I'm asking a legitimate question. And yes I would ask the same question if Lucky Model, M&Models or Sprue Bros was doing this.

If I see a great price on a particular kit, I do comparison shopping with other sites - even if it's a different brand of kit. My first shopping experience with Squadron was pleasant. They had the best price on the kit subject I was looking for regardless whether it was Academy or Ark Model.

I like Squadron, have been using them for years with no complaints.  If anyone wins their "jackpot", please let us know.  It's just advertising and harmless.
