Snowmageddon 2016

Watching PBS news up here on Ontario, Canada.

PBS was showing images of the side streets in NY

scary stuff when cars are completely buried under snow.

Looks like the public made the most of it and got out

and tried to have some fun with the snow. That was

one big snowstorm for the east.

Tojo, looks like you got about the same amount as us.  Channel 10 said 25.5".  Hope the water didn't do too much damage in the basement.

Got the driveway opened up all the way to the road.  The parking area next to the house is 3/4 open and that's all we're doing.  Large chunk of snow fell off the roof and totally smashed one of the Azalia bushes out front.  Both of us looked at it and said "tough s***", we really didn't like the way it looked anyhow.  When the snow clears, we'll put a chain around it and pull it out.

Thanks jim,no damage to anything,just puddles all over the place.there are azeslas and boxwoods under all those piles,so we'll see.

Here are some shots of my house,shoveled out by hand.Not too bad except my water heater ruptured saturday morning and flooded the basement,so I also had to wet vac the basement and no hot water till at least monday night.

Woke up to gorgeous sunshine, 26deg. and 25.5" of the white stuff.  Started clearing the parking area at the house and got 1/2 done.  Took a break for lunch and some hot coffee then went back to it.  Snow was over the top of the snowblower so it took a lot of manhandling.  Got a single pass down the driveway  to the road and cleared enough of the entrance to get a car into it but not up the driveway.  Will have to finish it tomorrow.  Got a lot done at the workbench yesterday and last night.  None today and none tonight as this old man is going to crash early.  

And yes, I'm one of those old timers that remembers the blizzard of '66.

cwalker3 where in northern maryland? i grew up in north Baltimore and have family in Fallston.

btw it was 60 in Denver today. probably have some snow before the game is over on Sunday.

 

Wayenc, I grew up in South Baltimore and moved to Harford County in the 80's. We've been living in Forest Hill for the past 20 years.

Seeing you're from Maryland, rest assured my sis also lives down in Pax River area. I've been busting her chops since Thursday night. I even went far as asking if she wanted me to overnight some genuine grade A New York State brand of rock salt. ROFLMAO!! I even offered if she wanted me to help push her car out of her driveway in 2 inches of snow. LOLOLOLOL!!

Everything I say in that post was not out of seriousness. I know how folks down south react everytime you get a snow storm, let alone 2 inches. I just find it comical folks get all hyped up over a storm. Even my sis see the ridiculousness of the panic. Although she likes the idea of a potential snow day come Monday. (She's a elementary school teacher).

 

Oh by the way - we had nothing but sun and clouds all day. Same for tomorrow and rain is in the forecast Tuesday with temps in the 40s. Gotta rub that in. LOLOLOL!!!

 

Black Sheep, I know all too well how the people here panic when they even mention snow in the forecast. I've seen schools close here just because they were forecasting snow. Grocery stores are in panic mode. And once it starts, and inch will shut down I-95. But having been a building engineer for 40 years and being responsible for getting rid of the stuff so the buildings can operate, I have a special respect and hate for the white stuff. At least now that I'm retired I can work at removing it on my schedule and not someone elses.

I miss snow.

We had one good dumping here, of about 9" back in Nov.(which melted away within 3-4 days). Nothing but dustings since. As it stands now, we've only got about an inch and a half on the ground...which will likely melt away tomorrow. The last two years were awesome...with around 2' on the ground from Jan through March! I really wouldn't mind seeing 3-4 feet...just once though!

Let's not forget, I also have a cousin in DC area and one in Baltimore. My aunt and uncle live in California, MD. I still bust their chops as well.

Pffffffttttt.... You guys make it sound like it's a major disaster. Get over it! It's winter for cripes sake! Back in my day we had real snowstorms. I'm sure some of you old timers remember the Blizzard of '66.

Look, I'm not bashing the weak of heart over this storm. Winter is suppose to have blizzards and snowstorms. So what if you've got to get out and snowblow/shovel yourselves out. Everybody been doing it for years. What makes this one any different from past winter storms or blizzards?

The problem lies with these youngsters weather meteorologists and the media. They're the ones making a big fuss over it. I guess it boils down it must be a slow news day so they need something to instill fear/excitement in its place. 

Now go make some hot chocolate and curl up with a good book or get on the bench and wait it out.

Soon, all this shall come to pass....

 

 

 

 

Don't know what posts you've read but I don't see anyone complaining. Just commenting on how we're doing. Hope you enjoy your hot chocolate.

Every time we turn on the news, the amounts get higher and higher.  Last night, it was 17 to 23.  Today it's 24 to 30.  We were going out to clear the driveway so it wouldn't be too bad to do when it's done snowing sometime tonight but I can't even see the end of the driveway about 50ft. away it's snowing so hard and the wind is blowing like crazy. The driveway markers are about 3 ft. high and they are over 1/2 covered now.

Wife says we'll just have to wait till tomorrow morning to dig out.  Well, I guess I'll just have to go and get some work done on the bench.

I live NE of Cincinnati, and the storm passed by and gave us a dusting. However, the areas SE of Cincinnati recieved much more snow. But, nothing even remotely close to 30"
