Made Out Like a Bandit
Posted by Hunter on Saturday, March 5, 2016 7:17 AM

Hello everyone -

Well, when I got home from my work week I was planning on a quit weekend of building the Albatross while my wife was away with my mom for a "girls weekend". After I entered my home it was obvious my plans would be put on hold because my wife planned a surprise Birthday party for me. I had a wonderful evening with my wife and friends over a great meal and conversation. It came time for the presents and man was I lucky and overwhelmed with the great gifts I received. I had to show all of you (Not to Gloat) but I wanted to share in the excitement of the nice kits I received.

I definitely need these Big Smile

Never have enough history books

Looking forward to this one

Couldn't believe I got this great PE binder

Make for some great dio's. The SBS (Special Boat Services) really hasn't gotten the attention or credit they've earned.

This is one I have been wanting since I saw it at the LHS...the wife got me this one. I really look forward to all of them...but this one will be first.

Another dio...man I will be busy for the next 2 years (LOL)

I was beyond grateful for these wonderful gifts and look forward to building them. The best part was the dinner and sitting around talking with the people that mean the most to me. That was a present in itself.

As I was putting these away last night I noticed I had a little stash going and just smiled. Again, I hope you don't think I am gloating....I just wanted to share this with all of you.

I enjoyed the post.  I smiled when you stated that you had a "small" stash, and laughed when you said you would be busy for the next "two" years.  The adjectives and numbers will only increase from here.  I bid you a sincere wecome to our addiction. The wife and friends are keepers for sure.  Heavy Arty here will be a wealth if info on the armor builds as well as the Huey.  I have to build two of those, one for a bud who was a CC on them and was in Crandal's outfit over there (couple of years later though), and one as Crandal's bird for the vets home here.  It needs some work and additions to be an accurate rendering of his.

Nice going, you are going to have to have birthdays more often, like every six months or so.

Good day Bish -

If the Tamiya Elefant is like the other Tamiya kit I have already built, it is going to be a fun build...I'll make sure to do a WIP so you can see what the kit consist of and get your thoughts and suggestions. The Nashorn is the one I can't wait to build. Definitely going to do a Winter dio on it.

That will be nice for your first armour build. I passed on the tamiya kit and wnet for the Cyber Hobby and AFV kits, but i have seen that tamiya build before and it is a nice kit. Tamiya are nice and dependable.

I agree with you on it being a good start into the armour arena. As time goes by I want to purchase kits that involve higher difficulty and some PE. Plus a great thing about these builds is the research I'll get to do to ensure I do it correctly.

I'll I need to complete the collection is a "251 half track" Big SmileWink

research is half the fun, but don't worry, with some of the guys on here, doing it correctly is not a problem. But the main thing, just enjoy it. There's plenty of time to start stressing about accuracy Big Smile

251, yes, i think i have heard of those, i might even have one myself. Whistling

Happy Birthday Hunter! Happy Birthday Nice stash of gifts.  No duplicates? They must have passed the word around so they didn't double up on them.  It's great that you have a wife that supports your hobby.  It really makes life a lot easier.Wink

I've built Jeeps and trucks but never a tank.  I'll have to keep an eye on your builds and maybe I'll give it a try some day.

Thank you Jim -

I don't know how they pulled it off without the duplicates...knowing my wife she informed all of them of my wish list and they decieded which one's to get. I would have been grateful for just one of these great kits.

Friend Hunter -

WOWZZA, hot dang, you fell into a pile of plastic and came up smelling like styrene. That stash will keep you busy for at least a weekend.

You married well, lad, struck gold when you found her. Mine is understanding about my hobby, (or at least tolerant,) but Thursday I caught heck for coming home with yet another Squadron book and two new kits, 140+ in the stash. Had to take dog for unusually long walk, actually should have gone longer as it turned out. (Joke.)

I'm very pleased that you have taken up the hobby in earnest, Dad Jeff would be pleased to see your accomplishments. Glad to see your WIP posts, great looking work.

Hello Patrick -

Yeah Jill is a gem...If I'm not careful she will be completing my builds while I'm at work or expanding my bench so she can have her own builds.(LOL)

Sorry too hear you got sent to the dog house for adding to your stash, next time bring home something she likes to soften the blow of 2 or 3 new kits Big Smile

Hope you are well,

Hunter
