Saw this on Garfield's comic strip this morning and threw it on for giggles. Once you get the two lines right, it was pretty easy.

Mine is a v6, and I had to break into the intake manifold to replace the fuel pressure regulator that was leaking, then replace an O2 sensor that failed. Had to get a crowbar to get that thing off. The list of repairs on my 2000 is getting so long, it scares me to think about it.

 

I had a 2000 Silverado with the 4.3L V6.  I liked the truck, but the Dexcool coolant ate through the intake manifold gasket.  Coolant was seeping into two cylinders.  I've been enjoying an F150 for the last three years.  It's a pretty cool truck, but it'd be cooler if it had snoopy on the back window.  

harbor Freight sells a pretty good code reader and with a 20% per cent coupon available. Read the codes yourself and you can access via the web the manufacturers code breakdowns. As for auto parts store YMMV. My daughter used to work in one and she knew nothing about cars yet would read codes for customers. I have a ford escape that was having some weird problems and searching the code reading on the internet led me to of all things a GM technician training video that was exactly what I needed to see to fix the problem.  I am getting to that point with my car .My poor KIA Sedona now has 198,000,00 on it ! Things are getting not nice .With all the electronics I have to deal with " we'll read the codes and fix the problems and there will be no charge for the code reading .We don't read before being engaged to repair ."

 That's the B.S. I am getting everywhere !    T.B - - - P.S. There's some deeper codes that the Auto Parts stores either won't or can't read .

I know what you're saying, John. No car payment, $27 tag fee yearly is hard to give up for me, but that leaking rear main oil seal does get irritating.

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L. Gets 10 mpg. Mechanically it's almost brand new replacing almost every part one piece at a time.  Let's see...New radiator, fan clutch, water pump, belt tension pulley, all four ball joints, both front hubs and u-joints, driveshaft carrier bearing and rear u-joint, all four brakes, and shocks. All in the last 3 years. Still runs great, body is rusting pretty bad. But I like my car payment $0. But it is getting close to the time I'm going to have to make a decision.  John

TB, it didn't last til the next morning after the dew hit it overnight. I redrew it since a faint outline still remained and it's been good through today. I need to find some glass markers, but haven't found any with a fine point.

I'm going to take a wild guess here, and say your truck is an S-10.  I have a 98 that I've owned for 10 years, that I'm ready to take a match to the gas tank and blow it up.  Something is wrong with it, eats gas, gets 14mpg and it's a 4 cylinder.  I've replaced every engine management part you can think of.  Nothing has worked.  It's due for inspection at the end of the month, and I know it's not going to pass. 

Congrats on getting yours going again, lol.  Sorry for that rant, I realized it was an S-10 and  I got annoyed.
