Know the name of this novel?

Trying to find a book title off of third hand info is going to be a challenge. The book is over 50 years old, it may or may not be a novel or fiction, and it may or may not concern Pearl Harbor. The only story that comes to mind, and its not a novel that I know of, is regarding a German air raid on Naples after the Allies have captured the port and made it operational again. Anyways, during the raid, a ship with a cargo of mustard gas ordnance was hit and the contents let loose. The cargo was classified, so the sudden mysterious deaths and other ailments due to mustard gas exposure were unexplained to medical authorities. But once known, one other curious side effect was noted-local cancer patients of certain types had their disease go into remission. This is where chemo therapy was discovered.

Novel? There's considerable focus on mesothelioma among vets, people who worked in the shipyards and industries related after their service.

Pearl Harbor shipyard is certainly one such site.

There's a good book out about the second attack on Pearl harbor, Operation K, but that's not of what you ask.
