Instead of a Sherman and a Patton, are you really thinking of an M48 and an M60, when you're thinking of two tanks that might be very, very similar?

A pretty good starting point for German armour is Acthung panzer. Afraid i can't give you the link at the minute, but google that and you will find it.

I tend to use the Military Factory website for a lot of stuff as long as you're not looking for anything too in depth. Their articles seem to be pretty accurate and they're the right length to read though in one sitting.
