This issue hasa been around for a long time.

I remember back in 1982 this coming up at a show I was in, where a guy wanted to enter his metal models, but wouldn't because of the name.  The official response to him was that the P was more of a moniker, and that all models, of any medium would be accepted.

I have never had any officials ask anything about the materials used in a model, at any local, regional, or national event.  Long, long time ago there indeed used to be a rule requiring certain percentage of plastic, but that went by the boards many years ago, and I don't know how strictly it was enforced before that.

I certainly would welcome a change in name, but I do understand the cost and effort it would take, and the resistance to such a change.

Hi Rob ;

  I agree with you .The thing is some venues ( Clubs ) don't know what to do with a group of say three paper airplanes . Or even one or two busts . This is what I was reffering to .

 I still think the full name does send some to the confused category .

IPMS hasn't been just plastic for many, many years. The name has been around for over 50 years though, and it's mainly known as just IPMS and not the International Plastic Model Society. I've seen diecast metal, photo etched metal and wooden models. Resin models are not truly plastic. There are even plaster busts.

Hi;

    Nope , This is not a slam . I.P.M.S. related events have been a LOT of fun all these years . The vendors just about knock my socks off at times . Beautiful Models . Certainly !  And the chance to mingle with our great Model Mag Guys , and Gals too !

 All you see will be the best efforts by all , displaying or entering for that elusive plaque , ribbon or trophy . The display only tables along with the paper , and what if , tables are certainly eye openers . No show categories for them sadly .

 There in lies my comments . " International Plastic Modelers Society ' Hmmm . Just Plastic ? I truly think it is time for this group , considering the Media creep from just plastic to about everything should be indentified differently . It is fun . It is so far a great venue .But there's modelers that build in wood and resin that feel left out maybe .

    Now there is a growing category for Sci - Fi . How about the rest ? Or how about this ? the  "International Modelers Society " Drop one word , and watch international membership grow Plus the categories will grow . Like those guys from The Latin American states who build , say planes ( and very accurate some are ) of aluminum cans and other found materials , Or literally machine parts from other types of materials .

    An ALL inclusive club . Covering All modeling venues . How about that ? Just thinking though .
