Oy , Harvey !
Posted by Tanker - Builder on Sunday, August 27, 2017 9:06 AM

Hello From soggy beaten Texas ! !

Ah , tis true this storm has wreaked havoc on this great state where I reside ! Rockport seems to have been given the left hook that did it in severely . One Dead at last report and many injured . I haven't turned on the T.V. but the reports will come in and we'll all breathe a sigh that it could've been worse .

As you all know I live in New Braunfels , the home of the original SchlitterBahn ! It has gusted to over sixty . Fences are down in the neighborhood . Rain going sideways in the wind , But , No damaging flooding here yet that I know of .

I have lived throught five Hurricanes and three Typhoons and one very nasty Tornado . Do I sweat it . Nah ! It does what it will and passes , as do other things in life . My heart goes out to those who lost homes and loved ones , but what else can I do !

I pray . No I am not going to get all holier than though ! This is all I can do and " Do it  my way " as " Ole Blue Eyes " sang . There is life in the old Lone Star yet and we shall make it . For those of you concerned I say thank you . I just wish it would hurry and go away . I have models to paint !

I should've waited before I signed. out .Geez  I didn't know that  Houston would get nailed so hard or that she would have so many fatalities . My prayers and heart are stretched even further , now !

I been sitting it out in San Antonio.  Lots of rain and wind gusts but not to bad.  We experienced no power outages in my area.

Spend the day in the man cave priming my M4 Jumbo and building a set of T-48 tacks from Kaizen for her.  Did a little clean up and rearrange the workbench.

Looks like it starting clear up a little this morning.  I have a pair of St. Louis ribs ready for the BBQ.

Hey Tank-Builder,

I am pleased to hear that you are making it through that crazy storm. My thoughts and prayers go out to your fellow statesmen and hope they are toughing it out as well.

I was worried about you. Glad to hear you'r still with us.

Marcus McBean. Was concerned for you too.

Happy to hear that Texas is still part of America.... and not an island.

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Glad to hear that you guys are OK. Went thru one a ways back and that was enough. Had to evac the inlaws from Titusville Fla. to an inland hotel. Rode it out watching all types of stuff flying by our 5th floor window and hoping none of it came in. The biggie was a gas station price sign.  We were talkig about retiring to Fla. but that changed our minds for us.

Hope you all make it thru safe and sound.

High and dry in San Antonio now. The storm moved east but we are still getting winds from the storm.  San Antonio just ended up getting a nice steady rain for a day and a half.  Some times it would come down hard but mostly nice and steady. It is still raining in Houston and it is turning into quite a disaster.  Until the airport close they were flying people out of Houston to Dallas and San Antonio.  They are calling it a thousand year event.  Looks like Houston will be the new New Orleans.

God bless you guys and hang in there.

We had flooding back in '85 and it was a big enough mess. No hurricane, it just kept raining and raining, raining and it had no place to run off. Harvey is about a billion times worse than our little disaster.

We're about 300 miles north in Dallas.  Cooler temps and clouds are about all we've seen.  Just an FYI, if you'd like to assist, you can text HARVEY to 909-99 for a $10 Red Cross donation.

Glad to hear you missed most of it.  Houston with 4-5 feet of rain is going to be a mess for awhile.

Keep building those floaty things, you might have to take them over there to start a taxi service.

Last night they showed a graphic of rain totals in the area for Harvey, and most were over what Portland, OR gets for a year.  Too much, too fast to soak into hard draught ground.

TB - I just saw your post. Did you come through okay in New Braunfels?

I live in Katy. We got hammered with flooding. It rained 9+ hours on that Saturday. We measured more than 30" of rain. My own house is far enough from the Barker reservoir that we were spared the flooding related to that. The only water we got in the house came in because the vent for our hot water heater broke loose; I put down a 2' steel wash basin and collected roughly 3" of water that I thankfully prevented from getting into my insulation and sheet rock.

On Tuesday a buddy of mine picked me up and we went out on his boat to rescue stranded people. One of the most meaningful things I have ever done. We pulled out 4 boat loads of people and two cats. That was like a scene out of a disaster movie, with the "Texas Navy", "Cajun Navy" and Coast Guard/National Guard/local responders boating up and down these rivers formerly known as roads in any kind of boat you can think of - air boats, fishing boats, john boats, kayaks, canoes, jet skies, pontoon boats ... and the National Guard Black Hawk helicopters flying at tree top level pulling people out of inaccessible areas.

Still here in Houston. Came through with minor dammage to the house and no dammage to my models.

Chasing the ultimate build.

Yeah , Speaking of Harvey !

Hey , all you all. Everything wound up good here some wind damage and lotsa water , but , no flooding out of the ordinary . My heart goes out to the folks from Houston and surrounding areas !

If I'd had my old work boat I would,ve joined the Texas Navy and gone and helped . Alas ! I sold her eight years ago ! We'll recover , and I am glad it seems that no one here had too much to deal with .

If Canyon Lake hadn't been 34' below normal we would've had a wet one ! As it is I still wish I could.ve helped .Tha Gas shortage after is still ongoing .Texans ! Can you Believe a Buccees running out of gas ? Yup ! Happened here !
