As most have probably heard by now Tom Petty, front man for the Heartbreakers has gone to the great music studio above. Why it effects me.... Back when MTV played music videos his songs were played regularly, my favorite was "You got lucky" just a cool video. He also mafe an appearance in a Kevin Costner movie called "The Postman" and was a real cool cat. He had a unique style and voice that IMHO was easy to listen to. While I do not follow celebs nor track the lives of the famous Petty never seemed to be a negative influence in the world. Last Dance with Mary Jane Tom, now your Freefalling.

I grew up listening to all the 80's rock music, including Tom Petty.  A great artist lost to soon.  RIP.

When he first started getting popular, some of my friends overplayed his music back in the day. But over time, when my friends moved on to other groups and albums, his music grew on me. And later I went back to his early stuff and learned an appreciation that I could not feel back then due to the overplay. Not to mention hearing his music now is a reminder of those carefree days spent hanging out with friends now long gone.

His music and personality was so laid back in a time where everything seems to be on edge.
