Tanker, we have the Spectrum monopoly here in Winter Park and their service is way beyond atrocious! When we are trying to watch television, the signal degrades at random times presenting nothing but a digital pixelated mess on the screen. As far as internet is concerned, the service is just OK, but way, way too expensive. I guess the powers that be at Spectrum need to buy gas for their Bentleys and we, the customers, need to pay for that gasoline for them.
The City of Winter Park is pushing Spectrum's back up against the wall though. Winter Park has informed Spectrum that the city is deciding to lay their fiber optic cable and disconnect from Spectrum. Spectrum is begging for mercy. Yeah, like Spectrum shows their customers any mercy or latitude. Yay for local government actually doing something for their constituency! Yay for a big communications monopoly getting a big kick in the butt.
Everytime some company buys one of their competitors, the market shrinks, prices go up, and service is degraded. The giant corporate monopolies call it progress. We, the customers, call it getting the shaft.
When I first moved to Florida, back in the 70s, and subscribed to cable television, there were a dozen cable companies in Florida. Competition was fierce and prices were good and so was service. Then companies began buying each other out and here we are today. No free market, just monopolies calling the shots.
Tanker, I hope you are able to resolve your cable/internet issues. Spectrum isn't very responsive and trying to contact a living, breathing person to complain to at Spectrum is an all day job with little or no reward. Good luck, my friend.
My rant is over.
