Up here (Big Rapids and Cadillac) there is normally a 4’ section in the toy department dedicated to models, glue, paint sets (Testor’s square acrylic), and brushes. When stocked they usually have 5-6 different aircraft, half of which are snap-tite, cars, some of which are snappers, and Estes model rockets and engines. Just after Christmas last year I grabbed the SBD. I picked up an F-82 last week. Both under $15. Walmart quit carrying them in the store a couple years ago. An associate told me it was largely because people kept grabbing the tube glue and opening it for some reason.

Truth!

First thing's first!!!

Way back, upon my first return to building...we were pretty much broke. I stashed my pocket change for weeks, to save enough for my next project...which were pretty much always Revellogram kits from Walmart or Meijers(like a Walmart). I had a limited selection of rattlecans (rustoleum or krylon)...so I had a few builds that were nowhere near close to being accurate in color! SEA camo P-51....grey/white(70's navy colors) A-20...the list goes on!

I like Meijer. Great meat and produce sections. I’ve also bought two kits there in the last year. They have a very limited selection of Revell, and only seem to restock kits for Christmas though. Decent prices when they have them though.

All I've seen there, in recent years, is Starwars kits. Just a single temp. display in the aisle at x-mas time. I've seen them in the Brighton store, but not at the Howell store (their maybe 5-6 miles apart). That said, I rarely ever go to Meijers (or Walmart) anymore....MAYBE twice a year.

Back in the late 90's, along with the usual Revellogram kits, you'd occasionally be able to nab an Academy or Minicraft kit, along with some others. There didn't seem to be a "standard" stock, and you never knew what might show up.

When I was married I would just hand over my paycheck to the Mrs. to pay the bills and in return I received an allowance.  This was to see to my needs through the work week, anything left over I put towards modelling supplies and kits for the stash.  If some extraordinary kit came along, well I guess I just missed a sandwhich or two. Worked for quite some time, also kept the waistline trimmed.

I am very fortunate.  Yes, the Mrs. would really prefer I work on the 30 or so kits I already have, but I was able to purchase a kit for a GB after my original kit ended up on the shelf of doom.  She understood why I wanted it, and didn't give me any guff.

She is also a bargain hunter, and will not pay full retail price for anything.  When I show her 50% off sales, she kind of feels that a deal like that should not be passed up.  Big Smile

Dwayne or Dman or just D.  All comments are welcome on my builds.

As long as all the bills are paid on time, and groceries on the shelf and in the fridge, and some added to savings, I figure the rest is mine to do with what I want.

Of course I'm sure that will change when it becomes permanent

Yes, but has anybody noticed what an attractive lady she is?

I don't the the model would win out, were it me. Flower

They lose any attractiveness as soon as they open their mouth to "complain" about stuff!

Back in the day...I'd hide stuff and/or blame the raffle, just to avoid the unattractiveness. These days (for the past 7-8 years at least), I do not care, and have no problem telling her what I spend...she has no problem either. Sure, she gives me some guff...but it's all in fun.

I make sure all the stuff I order gets here before my wife gets home from work, another advantage to being retired before her.Propeller                    ACESES5

For those of you who are not aware, if you search scale modeling jokes on facebook, the page you get is full of model related humor like the picture above.
